For example
do you create your own

1. Videos

Or

1. get others to train your VA ?
2. use others video to train your VA ?

etc
Thanks for any advice....

A screen capture with something like ScreenFlow (Mac) or Camtasia (PC) is best as you can record the information once and then use it as training material for any future VAs as they can both see what you are doing and have you talk them through it.

I have a VA from the Philipinnes too, but she is part of a company so she has had a lot of training already. The things she doesn't have knowledge about I create a video with the steps they need to do.

I take them step by step using Skype and then send them a road map.

If its generic, I use other people videos / training, but if it is something unique to my business I use a combination of video and written training.

No reason to re-invent the wheel (sometimes links to tutorials on youtube is all that is needed)

Use JING to make videos, not Camtasia, unless you really need some fancy features. Jing sends the video straight to your screencast account, no messing around. 5 minutes max for the free version. IF you can't do your video in 5 minutes you are blabbing too much (or for complex tasks do part 1, part 2, etc)

Also use Skype and screen sharing for live "fine tuning" teaching.

Make sure you have a process that is fully defined, and then this is an easy problem to solve.

Also ask your worker to install Jing and make a video of what they are doing so you can see the work "in action". This is only necessary if you want to make sure the process is done right, not just look at the end result.

I have to agree with JING / any videos being one of the most effective ways to train anyone remotely. This works especially well for repetitive tasks that you want done a specific way.

Also, don't worry about your videos being high quality when you're training a VA or anyone overseas. From my experience, the casual approach works very well and it will save you time too !

      Initially, I created the:
      1. Videos
      2. Documents
      3. Process flows
and would follow up with Skype when necessary. Now, I have a VA that trains the VA.

Yep, Jing is great for this.

You will quickly learn to be a bit generic in your conversation. The video then could be used to train other people should the need arise. And... it probably will.

Check out John Jonas' blog at Jonasblog.com. Right now he is wrapping up a series titled Philippines Outsourcing Tips.

    Hope this helps.

That's why I always suggest to hire a company instead of a freelancer. You are guaranteed that your leased staff are formally trained, educated and instructed with only top-notch standards, leading the outsourcing industry.

Staff leasing is better than freelance work because leased staff are permanent workers of a company and are easy to reach in case you need them. Freelancers do not have employers so they do as they please and sometimes cannot be contacted for various reasons.

Usually, our supervisor provides video and examination to the staff. We make sure that our staff is well-trained before we deploy them to our clients.

Doing videos or screenshots help a lot. Might as well try doing screensharing thru Skype or TeamViewer so you can do it live. Any questions your VA might ask, he/she can and clarify things right then and there.

    Hi All,

I also use Jing to create videos and be able to send out these instructions to my team easily without taking time to write long instructions. Also, videos are great tools for them to follow your instructions straightaway because of the screen captures and therefore, you'll easily get what you want once they get started.

Additionally, I store all information inside a project management system (tickets, videos I create for them and logins) to have them working at once while also eliminating sending of emails from time to time. I use ActiveCollab and it has made my business more automated as possible with my virtual staff in place.

I get to talk to them over Skype as well during our weekly meetings. I also use that time to check on their tasks and if they're having problems.
