Need Skype Headset...What are you using?

Hi Warriors,

Time has come to start using Skype.

I'm on a macbook pro.
What are some decent headsets to start shopping around for?
Prefer something I can buy direct in stores from Canada.

Is the USB models better?

Thanks for your input in advance.

I'm using a skype phone, Philips Voip3211, the best thing is that it works as a regular landline phone as well. Connects via USB; downside is that you need to plug 2 power supplies

I would use what they recommend on skype.com then search the exact product number and you should be able to get it atleast half off from what they are charging. I think with shipping on skype.com they charge you like $36. Try that.

I LOVE my Plantronics DSP 500, but I don't know if it's Mac compatible.

It's USB. The sound quality is top-notch.

I checked their website and it's not compatible with mac computers.

Does anyone have a specific model of plantronics they use on a mac?

        Thanks.

I'm using a Plantronics headset with USB adapter.

It has the fuzzy mic and was about $60 from BestBuy.

You also will need a special Skype call recorder for Macs
if you plan on recording calls/

    I'm using Ecamm:

personally...I recommend Sennheiser, these are the absolute best headset that I have found...I was a professional counter strike gamer so I needed the best quality I could get..and these are the best...then I tried them with recording videos for IM and stuff and in my opinion they are still the best, you just can't beat the quality. I recommend getting the HME 25-1 model.

the downside is that I don't know if they are available for direct order from Canada...I think they are made&shipped from Europe..they might be a little expensive but they are worth the entire price.

    Hello,

Re Mac compatibility: USB headsets are Mac compatible but audio ones aren't. The Mac audio-in jack needs 'line-level' input -- the output level of most microphones (headsets) is too low (and has the wrong impedance) to work without a line-level amplifier or a mixer. The Windows audio-in jack, on the other hand, usually has a built-in line-level amplifier, so it works with a straight mic connection (like a headset).

Can't go much wrong if you stick with Plantronics - as long as it's USB for your Mac.

You can pick up the DSP-400 quite cheaply and it's a superb bit of kit.

Not tried them, but is anyone using Skype with a wireless headset?

Plantronics DSP 500 ... at least I think I used it on my Mac. I've had two different headsets and used them both on the Mac and now the DSP500 on the PC.

Audio 770 Virtual Surround Sound Headset all the way. Cost around $80 Aus but its the best you can get. Well from the shop i went to anyways.
Got them to throw it in with my new laptop.

They are massive and it feels like your wearing a helmet but they are so worth it.

    Digitally-enhanced virtual surround sound
    Open-ear design
    3D audio
    Full-range stereo
Dual connectivity option--USB or 3.5mm analog
    QuickAdjust microphone boom
    Noise-canceling microphone
    Super-light, full-range adjustable headband
    Pillow-soft ear cushions

    Heres a pic

I use a USB Logitech and am very pleased with the quality. I think the headset was only like 40 bucks. I am very impressed with the quality for the price.

I am using the headset that came with my Xbox, it is connected to the wireless Xbox 360 Controller. I got me a wireless receiver for the controller, the receiver is plugged in to the PC.

The nice thing is, it is wireless since the headset is only plugged into the controller, and you can easily carry this around, controller in the pocket!
