MY first thread in WF, and unfortunately I have to ask for help
I've created a Powerpoint Slideshow Presentation and need to convert it to video, in order to upload to YouTube. Any suggestions on software? Hope fully a free one...lol, or low cost. One that has a tutorial or easy to follow instruction. I've been trying for 2 Days now and I'm losing my hair! Thanks

    Hi,

    Welcome to the Forum.

Have you tried using the save feature in Powerpoint? There's one where you save it for the web. Not sure if that's what you're looking for. I believe there are 2 options for web. The one I tried created the Powerpoint presentation as a web page, but I think there's an option to set it within the page.

Can't tell you if that's what YouTube needs as I've never used either YouTube or PP videos. Someone suggested using Windows Movie Maker, but I'm not familiar with it. It's free with Windows XP (and maybe other versions)

    Hope this helps.

        Hi Jagged

I don't know how much mo.. you have but there is a short term solution.

Camtasia 5 has a powerpoint integration mode.

I've just used it with a video I'm doing and it works a treat.

The only thing is camtasia costs a bit but there is a free trial period for 1 month last time I looked there.

It's the quickest way that I was able to use it.

You can download it from techsmith.com

        Good luck!

Most of these converters are quite pricey (>$500). A company called Crystal Graphics does have a cheaper one. I bought it but ended up not using it. Take a look at their site. If you decide you want mine, you can have it for $30 (that includes shipping). I don't remember what I paid for it.

Also, Camtasia will probably do it, albeit a little jerky if you have a lot of animation.

Oh, btw, a site called SlideShare will let you upload PowerPoints, but they don't seem to handle the animations. Still, might be something worth looking into. - Russ

    Camtasia does it (V5)
But I "think" Camtasia 3 did it as well, which was available for free just by registering. It may still be available.
A quick search on Google also produced this FREE utility
Free PowerPoint to AVI - Free PowerPoint to MPG - Free PowerPoint to WMV - E.M. Free PowerPoint Video Converter
Another option is a screen cam recorder and using powerpoints narate mode to add audio first.
I can sell you a screen cam thing for 5 bucks if you are stuck.

Camtasia 3 is not free anymore. I just checked that out recently. But thanks a bunch for that link. Looks like just the thing I'll be needing when I get around to doing videos.

Check my sig for a very low cost solution to your problem. I know where you're at, because it took me almost a week of tearing my hair out to figure it out.

Thank you all for the super fast replies. Camtasia 5 is out of league price wise, I've looked for a Camtasia 3.1 free version but can't find an active download link. I believe that offer may have expired.
I have now downloaded the "WonderShare PPT, so far it looks good. Need to sync the music a little better, a few touch up's and I think we'll have it!
What a pain!! There has to be a better way...lol
Thank you everyone for your fast responces. I knew this was the place to go for help

Check out Jing. It's free and might do the job. Not sure.

My son uses Windows Movie Maker to create videos to submit to YouTube. Failing that perhaps try Camtasia 5's free trial period. There is also Camstudio that is free but has a lot less features than Camtasia.
    Good luck,
    Chris

All great suggestions, Thanks so much. I'll tell ya, I will never go this route again! What a hassle...lol Anyways, you all have been very helpful. After much trial & error (more error), we ended up using WonderShare PPT. That got the conversion complete, but it jacked up the audio and throws it out of sync. I will get it squared away, I'm sure.
With any luck, I'll make some sales and be able to afford Camtasia 5 for the next one.

Here is Techsmiths free version of Camtasia Jing Project: Visual conversation starts here. Mac or Windows.

Use that and present your powerpoint presentation in View mode while recording the screen and narrating.

Yes, there's Jing, which limits you to 5 minutes per video, but it's free.

Also Camtasia has a 30 day trial period, don't forget.

To record PowerPoints into video I record camtasia, put the PowerPoint show in fullscreen, dictate right then and advance the slides as I need to... don't pre-record the audio, it's way too much of a pain to put together later.

Here's one I created in PowerPoint, converted to flash, then captured with Camtasia:

Quality isn't great, but if you skip the intermediate flash conversion step, they should look a look cleaner.

If you do not find a way to do it, let me know. I am one of those Mac users and my Office for Mac has a save as a Quicktime movie, which youtube will let you upload.

I am pretty sure it would only take about 15 minutes or so. I could then upload the movie to one of my servers, give you the address, and then take it down.

Up to you. Just happy to help.
