My article writing sucks... 2760 Views, 538 URL Clicks, and only one sale! :(

Hi, can someone help me? I still think I'm new to this but willing to learn...

I don't know what I'm doing wrong! I'm doing the "basic methods" of article writing marketing and wishing that it works...

What I did was take an area that was I was interested in and have experience in so I write an article on how to give a woman an orgasm...

I went to "clickbank marketplace" and chose the coolest sales page! - the one that caught my attention was called "Orgasm On Command"

So I test tried 2 methods but both are not working...!

First... I rewrote an outsourced article because that one didn't really make sense. This article got 2760 Views, 538 URL Clicks but only one sale from EZA alone!

Then, I wrote another article yesterday and this one right now has 677 Views, 211 URL clicks also from EZA alone but 0 sales...

I've heard people that say that write an article, get 30-50 views and make one sale!

I've also heard that the average conversion rate was 1%! and can even go up to 2%! Meaning that if 100 people go to the merchant's website, the affiliate will get 1 sale!

That was what I am aiming for... but so far these conversation rates are only .19% and 0% respectively... does that mean I have to get 10,000 people from EZA and 1000 URL to make more sales!!? *faints*

Can someone help me with these articles? Here they are... Hopefully they can settle the controversial issue between choosing top level domain vs. blog.

Oh yea... Warning to women! - They may sound sexist to women, but I'm really not sexist... I'm just trying to target desperate and horny men. Also, one of my favorite friends is my mom. Okay anyway, here are my written articles!

Your article is getting plenty of views, the url is getting clicked on, but the page you're sending them to isn't converting.

In my opinion, it's simple. The page you're sending them to absolutely blows chunks.

If it's yours, you should revamp it. If it's someone else's, I'd search for another one.

Yep I agree with Floyd here, that is what seems to be the problem.
Oh and if you got around a 20% click conversion rate you're a pretty good article writer

If I'm reading you right, youre saying that you've written just TWO articles.

You've got to write MANY more than that to begin seeing returns. As the previous poster said, all the answers you want are here on the forum. And over in the WSO section you can find some detailed programs that can help you.

You may already be doing everything correctly....you just have to do MORE of it! MUCH more....

I think your biggest problem is that you have picked niches where too much free information is available...you are essentially marketing to freebie seekers.

Lets face it, I could search Google right now and find 3,000 positions to put the old lady in tonight, complete with written instructions and even a video to go along with it in most cases

I'm not saying that these types of products don't make money because I'm sure they do when marketed to the right "crowd", but when you are submitting articles to places like EzineArticles chances are that half of your views and clicks are from some horny 16 year old kid.

The "secret" to Article Marketing is not just to churn out article after article, but to make sure that you are getting your articles viewed by the people that you want to see them.

As an example, if you had those types of views and clickthroughs on a product that would give a man evidence that his wife was cheating on him, you would have made some cash

Try a different niche. The numbers that you are seeing as far as views and URL clicks are not bad. It seems like you are just sending people to a product that they DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR.

I just took a look at one of your articles. You are missing a huge piece of the puzzle here. You are not testing what the commercial intent might be for your keywords.

In your one article you are targeting the following keywords:

make her orgasm, nice orgasm, enjoyable orgasm, quirky sex positions

Now, all of these keywords have one thing in common as far as I can see.
Not a single one of them has an adwords ad running when you enter
the keyword into Google. Most of the time this should be a clue to
you right away that the keywords don't pay, but you are finding
        this out now.

I only really looked at the first article - but I noticed one thing (besides what everyone else said)... There are no "consequences" defined. Like, why would this be important to people? If there are some consequences in there, it may make people have an urgency and then consider buying the product.

Cool... so is there anything I can do to improve my articles or is it just the merchant's webpage?

Also, Jeremy Kelsall 1) what do you mean by "putting the old lady in tonight?"

For example, 2) how do I know if I am market to the "right crowd." I don't know who's behind the monitor screen and also the Ezine Articles URL clicks doesn't show me a profile of what kind of people are clicking through?

    Thanks

Your own stats should show you that the right "crowd" is not getting to your articles.

      Try a keyword like:

"how to make my wife orgasm"
"ways to make my fiance orgasm"

and I would bet that there are plenty of adwords ads running which often means that people are making money on the keywords.

With a niche like this, it is all about pin point precision. Meaning, if you can get Joe 40 year old that is legitimately looking for ways to please his wife chances are good he is willing to spend some money to get the desired results.

When you are targeting a keyword like "quirky sex positions" you are probably as I said earlier, getting a bunch of horn dogs looking at your article searching for a link to some porn...not for a link or a product to solve a problem for them.

You say you've had 538 click throughs, but how many people have clicked through from your blogger landing page?

The problem isn't with the product, sales page or your articles. It's your landing page IMO. It didn't make me want to click through, hell I barely noticed the link to the product!

Buy the product yourself or ask for a review copy, and write your very own review on the product giving the pros and cons. And put it up on your blog. Simple.

Or take the easy route for a couple days and just buy a domain name to redirect directly to the sales page and see if anymore sales roll in.

The merchant looks fine to me. I think your issues are two-fold:

For starters, the English is poor (I'm surprised the first one got approved, some parts look like they were written by a machine).

Some of the instructions are unclear. Example:

      Acrobat

You'll be in for a real treat if she agrees to try this position with you but it requires some balance though. Lay down on your back while she lies down on yours.
How can she lie down on your back if you're lying down on your back already? Does she phase through the bed and activate a gravity inverter on the ceiling?

TBH (and this probably sounds a lot meaner than I intended) the only reason why I'd click on your link is for the unintentional amusement your blog would provide. I certainly wouldn't buy from you. But just to make sure, track how many people go from your blog to the merchant. If a lot of people don't bother at all, it's you. If you are getting visitors to the merchant but they're not converting, you might consider that the traffic isn't very good (IE: you're just getting perverts who want to read pornographic literature). In this case, you could ditch the affiliate link and just add adsense to your blog so the drifting perverts can click on an ad that may feed their lust and you get paid for it without having to sell anything (though I think ad sense doesn't allow porn, but I can't remember if the ban extends to all sex stuff).

Of course, I'd just ditch this niche altogether, but it's up to you.

Never mind, I got that first part

"The "secret" to Article Marketing is not just to churn out article after article, but to make sure that you are getting your articles viewed by the people that you want to see them."

So writing 10 articles on this subject won't do any good but it's more important to find "right readers."

    and...

"As an example, if you had those types of views and clickthroughs on a product that would give a man evidence that his wife was cheating on him, you would have made some cash"

A niche on "man finding cheating wife" niche is better than "how to make a woman orgasm" niche...? Interesting insights, thanks!

Yes, do you see the difference?

If a man is looking online for a resource to prove his wife is being unfaithful, he would be willing to pay almost anything to get that info.

A man looking online to find sex positions can stumble into any free porn site and get the info for free. As I said, there probably definitely is a market for this product, it is just a matter of finding the "right" words and phrases to do it.

It appears that you direct your readers to your blog. The blog looks nice but you can make it more appealing by making it easy for people to click on the link to whatever you are selling. A big and bold letter like CLICK HERE TO BECOME A MASTER ON BED or CLICK HERE TO MAKE YOUR WIFE LOVE YOU EVEN MORE... I believe you get the idea.

Don't be afraid to ask for people to click on whatever you are selling. Some people just don't know what to do after reading your materials and it is up to you to instruct or direct them on what to do next.

If I was you I'd definately make some changes to the blog. Put more keyword targeted content on there and make sure you place your affilliate links loud and clear for people to click on. Write more articles, drive more traffic and build backlinks to the blog at the same time, Sooner or later you will get some nice organic search engine traffic.

Also I would host the blog on your own domain it helps with SEO.

You need to improve your resource box. Although you are getting some click throughs, your call to action is weak. Your first line is:

"If your good at making a woman orgasm, then good."

First off that is pretty bad grammar. It is also not very enticing. How about something like:

Want to make girl's scream your name in ecstasy? With this one simple technique you will leave them begging for more. Anyone in the know will tell you - Women will do anything for a man who can make her orgasm.

Then dedicate a few lines to how you are an expert or have first hand knowledge in using this product. I would really play on an angle that you are a regular guy but women worship your skills in bed. That is appealing to a broader market. You can do a lot with this topic, have fun with it!

You also need more content on your website. The link to the merchant page right should be right in front of our faces with big colorful letters and a fancy graphic. Click here!>>>>Sex<<<<Click here!
Sex sells but right now it looks like you are selling widgets. Use your imagination.

Those article views you are getting are fantastic numbers. That shows you are doing great keyword research. Now focus on converting them.

Hey thanks for the call to action tips, "I would really play on an angle that you are a regular guy but women worship your skills in bed." <- With this, I've had experience in the bed with women but I wouldn't say that any of them worshiped my skills in bed like a porn star... except of girl did say "it felt weird" BUT the point of the matter is that if i told people about that, wouldn't i just be lying?

1 sale from 2 articles isnt to bad. People have done alot worse. 2 articles is around 30 - 40 mins work so 1 sale from that isnt to bad. You should be writing 10 or more articles a day if article marketing is all your doing.

Your Numbers are great when it comes to views and clickthroughs. Would say a high percentage of those views and clickthroughs would have been for amusement and intrigue because of the niche your in.

I think the initial burst of traffic from EA is from the writers and publishers that are submitting their own work from the homepage, definitely not targeted traffic. The traffic you get from when your article is ranked in the serps are the people trying to find out how to make a woman cum and the ones willing to pay for the know how.

With those numbers i would send them straight to an opt-in form. Offer them the info free for signing up. Then youl have a list that is very easy to monetize with a number of different products.

If your going to continue promoting affiliate products, definitely buy your own domain, send them there and then redirect them to the product. You are losing a huge amout of potential buyers at your blog. Cut the blog out.

Regarding the fact you don't have a wife or a fiance is irrelevant. The principles of making a woman orgasm are the same whether you've just met her or been with her for years (although hopefully the longer you're with her the better you get).

Regarding your predicament, it's either the landing page or you're targeting the wrong keywords. I'm in the same niche using article marketing at EZA and I am (currently) getting about a 1% CR (a 2% CR on my best page though - I'm split testing). So it's not the niche.

I am not sure what is your clickthrough on your hoplink like, but a simple page with a short paragraph and not so obvious hoplink will not help. There are some ways to improve the clickthrough on hoplink and improve the sales.

    1. Add more content into it. 1 or 2 informational articles.
    2. Add a banner at the top that hyperlinks to the product sales page.
    3. Add a small teaser text ad below the banner, bold it, make it prominent and ask the reader a quick question to entice them to go to the sales page like the way you would do for an adwords ad.

This works for all my blogs and websites. So give it a try!

    Further information:

    You have misunderstood common statistics.

Your articles are good. Their stats speak for themselves.

To simplify figures, let's say you write an article that has 1000 views and 200 clicks (20% CTR, which you seem to be more or less doing).

If that article goes STRAIGHT to the sales page, then yeah, you might get a 2% CR (conversion rate).

You are redirecting them to your blog. Assuming you still get a 20% CTR, the number of people who see the sales page has dropped to 40.

Let's assume this sales page has a 2% CTR. You will need 50 people to see it to make a sale.

Therefore with these figures every 1200 views your articles get you will make one sale.

Keep in mind these are averages, real stats fluctuate all the time.

Often the more steps a visitor has to take the lower your CR. To be 100% sure of what is really going on here you have to be tracking the amount of people who get to your blog and their outbound clicks to your merchant's page. Once you have a CTR for your blog's link, you know how many people saw the merchant's page. Then using this info and the amount of sales you are making you can get the merchant's CR.

There are so many things that could be going wrong here, but the figures you speak of (the ones that you want)are for visitors going directly to a sales page, not with a detour on the way.

    Thought I'd clarify.

Always looking for badass direct-response copywriters. PM me if we don't know each other and you're looking for work.

I'm with Floyd on this as well - Your article is doing just fine, pretty darn good in my opinion if your just starting out.

Your problem is the landing page. If you are a regular of any established blogs or have a social relationship with someone more experienced, send them an email asking for critique on the whole landing page situation. Most experienced IM's wouldn't need more than 5 minutes to give you a list of what needs to be done to improve your conversion rate.

    Sup Dan,

    1) You have a great point there, some people are saying that the more "steps" you need to take the reader there, the lower the conversion rate will be, while others say that using more steps, the higher the conversion rate will be.

    2) I see this point, & I'm working on this right now. It seems like my statistics were blatantly wrong. Blogger, IMO looks a lot more straight forward that Squidoo - it doesn't have all this stuff all over the page, however I wish Blogger showed you the CTR! :/

I'm a starter, but I am willing to try everything I can to be a successful internet marketer and chase my dreams. If you can answer any of my questions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

      1) The general rule of thumb - more steps = lower conversion.

      2) You can install Google Analytics pretty easily into Blogspot.

Daniel - that was a useful post.

Do you capture emails in your funnel, or just direct your traffic to the sales page?
