PLEASE HELP - Need index/categorizing software - I can't keep track of my stuff

Over 3 years, I've spent thousands and only made hundreds of dollars at best. One of my problems is I have so much stuff I've bought gathering digital dust, and I don't even know anymore what tools I have with which to make money. Does anyone on the forum know of a GOOD database style program which would index and categorize all of this stuff so that when I need to find something, I can easily search and find it? I'm really overwhelmed and will appreciate any ideas. Thanks in advance for your input.

      Thanks Loren -

I'll definitely check out that software. Thanks again for the suggestion. By the way, I can't seem to figure out how to mark your post with a ' thanks ' , so others can see I appreciated your answer. How is that done?

        hey Paul

I found sometimes it's just easier to forget what software you've already downloaded until you know exactly what you want to do, what system you're gonna use and what direction you're gonna take.

Then once you have that all sorted out - you can look on your hard drive first when you need a new piece of software etc etc - before you go trolling the net.

For the moment tho - I'd spend a few hours (make coffee first!) and sort all that stuff into folder on your harddrive. I've got a downloaded folder, then have software, IM systems, Gurus etc etc - then just keep adding folders to those until it all makes sense. Should only take a couple of hours, but even if it takes a day it's certainly a day well spent. Then when you download more stuff you can put it into the relevant folder straight away. I've looked at download manager programs before and found that I can do the same thing with folders for free - plus when you're in download overload do you really wanna download and pay for something else?

I also have a folder called 'Stuff I Like'. When I find something I think I want - I save the page to that folder. Just make sure you rename the file to something relevant. Chances are you'll never actually need any of it and have saved yourself truck loads of moula!

Marking the post with 'Thanks' - at the bottom right of each post you see the black buttons with 'quote' 'multi quote' 'quick reply' and 'thanks'

You're welcome Paul - the "Thanks" button is in the lower right corner
of a post not made by you. Since you post count is low here it may
not be active yet - I know some people have tried to game the
WF by trying to fake social proof using multiple accounts, so the
script may not activate certain features until you have 50 posts or
    something.

Have you read any of it? If so, you should do some housecleaning. Just delete the stuff that you don't find useful first. I cleaned off my hard drive of the same type of digital dust a long time ago and haven't missed any of it. Most of it was just crap.

Then try some software to index the rest if you still have that much when the housecleaning is done.

Thanks Paul. I've the same problem only I've found I've actually bought the same software TWICE because I couldn't find the first copy stored on my HD! Once I bought the 2nd copy and went to unzip and 'SAVE' its individual parts in a specific folder - a message appeared telling me it already existed and asking me if I wanted to overwrite it.

Seeing as it was MY mistake I wouldn't consider asking for a refund for the 2nd copy (taking responsibility for my OWN mistakes unlike some Wall Street types)

Pffft. What you need to do is refund BOTH copies. It's totally their fault you didn't use it. Didn't you know?

I'm being sarcastic btw. It's nice to see someone with some integrity!

    Hi, Paul
You might want to check out this product.

    IMI Organizer MAP

I ran across this a while back searching for the same thing.
I haven't purchased it yet simply because that wasn't an expense I could justify at the moment, but it does look awesome.
It will require some work, but it's functionality looks VERY promising.
And for the record, I am in no way affiliated with this software. I just bookmarked it for a more convenient time.

    Hope it helps,

    Robert

Look up Fabian Fuller here on the forum. He has an excellent software that will pull in all the stuff on your hard drive for you, into the database. Then you can just enter the details as you go. Most programs you have to add things one at a time.

Keep in mind this is a 6-month old thread bumped by a newbie a few posts above. The OP hasn't logged into the forum for over three months. Someone else might benefit from the info anyway, but just pointing that out.

Oh, geesh. Didn't even notice that, Ken.

There are a lot of solutions out there to choose from. It just depends on what your taste are. I happen to sell a Knowledge Base Software solution that allows for searching by category. It might fit your needs. The Single User Version is 29.95.

                    Cheers!
