Today i wake up and as always i am checking my emails.

My main email account has been "disabled" by Google, i have no clue why.

I filed a ticket since i cannot verify the email with a SMS.

Anyone had that happen to them? I am stumped.

I have had a few that were temporarily disabled & also know many others that have had the same thing.
It appears as though accounts that were never asked to verify their account with a cell phone number when they set up the account are now being asked for it.

I wouldn't worry about it, since it's happening to a lot of people and the forums are buzzing.

Well i read that i might be able to verify the account via voice call from 9am my time. So i will wait a few hours and try then.

This is really bad since my Adwords, Analytics and everything is tied to this account.

The only time I've had a Gmail account locked was when I logged into the account and forgot that I still had Thunderbird running. Of course Thunderbird is set to login and get my mail. The system saw two different logins to the same account and froze it immediately. I sent an email to support explaining my goof and my account was unlocked the next day. I also received a nice email saying they understood and apologized for the inconvenience. The email freaked me as much as the lockout, it was so unexpected.

They are so inconsistent! I have my account constantly opened in 2 players (at least) at once and it even says at the bottom:

      =====
This account is open in 1 other location at this IP (*********). Last account activity: * minutes ago on this computer. Details
      =====

..and I've never had my account froze or anything.

Ugh, I dunno, they do what they like.

once I had that happen for a pen name so I made the same name in yahoo and used it to send Google an email about it and I got the account back. There is some way to do that provided by Google when it happened but I needed an email for them to reply to to file a request.

by the way if wordpress.com pulls a blog sometimes they will give it back if you complain and the blog wasn't too loaded with affiliate ads and links too. I gave up on wp.com for marketing though, too many other options to be bothered with their socialist like attitude, like one link out and they say spam seo linking blog, yech..

    Hi,

I've heard of people using their gmail email to send out email marketing. One email complaint to abuse@gmail.com will get your email shut down too....

Don't know if you use your email for that recently but its worth using private domain emails for email marketing... It's also possible that someone could be using your email as a "reply-to" on some spammers email campaign...

I used to use gmail a lot, with my adsense and adwords, but due to the risks of getting shut down inadvertently I no longer bother. I use private emails exclusively.

    Cheers

Oh dear, I have about 15 gmail accounts. I feel for you - I have all my email accounts forward to my main account which then has filters in place so they are put in certain folders.

If my main one got shut down - no google analytics, no email, nothing.

This really has made me think twice about using them. I hate relying on another company to do business, but gmail is just so damn easy and convenient.

Check if they have changed their policy. It has happened to me once when I tried to open my email and it was disabled. I was able to activate it again when a new code was sent to my mobile.

DON'T PANIC. If you are the real owner of the
email, it will eventually be enabled and you will
gain access. You should be patient and keep
knocking on their doors. They will eventually
ask you certain questions relating to the
account and if you provide the answers, they
    will restore/enable it.

Google is STILL run by humans, you know,

I can not even create a Gmail account.

I do not have a cellphone, thus can't do the SMS thingy.

And never received any voice call at 9am my time. It has been well over a month now. I had even sent them a message via their own form about that.
      *shrugs*

George - I hope in your case it is not a spam complaint but something minor.

I have several Gmail accounts and they started working immediately. Never gave cell phone info or anything, they just became active. Is this SMS thing regional? Where I am in western Canada, I can create accounts without a second thought.

          I am with Robin,

I have many many gmail accounts and I never gave up a cell phone. Is this new? I guess I will find out tonight

          Mine also have worked immediately.

FYI I have also set over 120 gApps accounts. I have many many times been logged in to a clients gApp mail account while they we there to show them X, Y or Z.

In all this I have never had the mail shut down for any reason

Personally if you have the domains I like the gApp accounts. Still uses the gmail system but some folks will not allow summits with a "free" account. Even thought the gApps accounts are free they do not look like it.

    guys, all has been solved.

I waited til 9am and then let them voice-verify the email, got it back. I have this email for 4 years already.

I noticed that one of my "lesser quality" blogger blogs has been deleted the same day, it was an adsense blog which has been marked as "Spam". So i guess this had something to do with it.

Good to have your email back. It must have been because of that blog.

Did you get it figured out?

I had an uh-oh moment today when a Google Adwords rep hesitated after I mentioned I had several Google accounts (and no idea of the monthly spend for the account he was referring to). I really try to stay on top of the TOS for sites that I'm associated with by I confess ignorance to the Gmail TOS. I routinely setup Google accounts for new clients and probably log into 5-10 every day. Thx for the reminder to look into this.
