I see some services being offered here for a ridiculously large amount of money, at least in my opinion, for what I've seen it go for or for what I've even offered it at other places.

One of things I am talking about is a service that I do and have been doing for years for a fraction of the price. I don't want to post what it is and call anyone out on it.

I'm wondering if it would be in bad taste for me to offer my same service here at my normal asking price? They're asking over $200 for a service that I do on a regular basis (something I do for a living actually) for only $50. Who knows, maybe they offer a more in depth service than I do.

If the service you're speaking of
is the same thing you're doing in your avatar image
then I'll purchase one for my mother-in-law

By all means go ahead, there are no rules regarding under-cutting here. We do live in a capitalist society after all.

It all comes down to if you are happy with your margins. If yes then continue as is. It may be worth packaging your service and offering it as WSO. Could bring you in loads of business if your price is better than others offering the same kind of thing.

If the services that you are offering belong to an industry where you don't get repeat business... Kill it the first time around!

As others have mentioned, no problem.

    However, one quick note:

If you offer it as a WSO, then you'll have to offer it below your normal asking price. WSOs require you to offer a low price that's not available to the general public.

Is it in bad taste to offer a lower price for a service someone else is selling at 4X the price? No way! The only question I would have is this. If your competitor is successfully selling a service at a higher price, why would you sell yours at the low end? It is usually competitive pricing pressure that drives prices down.

I'd raise your price to $199 and specifically show the customers how my service will benefit them more... rather than competing on low price. Pocket the extra 150 bucks and send a love letter to your competitor thanking him for the pay raise!

No ... of course it isn't bad form to offer a service at a lower price than your competitors. Like you said though, maybe they are offering something more or maybe you could be getting more. If you're happy with the profits, go for it.

This will be a good chance for you to market your services. If you think you can offer the same service and good quality with a lower price then go ahead and show them what you've got! This is an opportunity for you to branch out your business. It doesn't matter if someone else is offering a higher price than yours just as long as your giving good quality of work then that should be fine.

Setting aside the greedy portion of my personality...I have to agree. But then again, you do get to branch out your business...so maybe my greedy side isn't totally set aside

Well what I seen him offering for that price literally takes me an hour or two tops to setup. I tend to charge by the hour for what I do and I've always felt $25/hour was fair.

I honestly feel like he's way over charging for it. But then again this isn't DP. I scouted DP long before I came here and prices there... I can't compete with someone offering the same stuff I do for $5 LOL even if my quality would be better.

And I don't feel like I'm selling myself short. My goal is to build repeat business (which I have in the past). I have references and all that jazz. And many people that have used me in the past have came back at least one more time.

Thanks for the input, all. I'm going to browse around some more and see what other competition is like here.

If you are satisfied with the service income you are getting, feel that you have positioned your offer in the sweet spot, and the repeat business is there as well, it sounds like your choice has already been made. The business guy inside me says to truly investigate whether your competitors are really getting the work at 4X your price. Posting a extraordinarily high price for a service and actually getting work at that price are two different animals. It might be true that they just aren't getting much work at their stated price.

Regardless, best of luck with your service!

If what you offer has the option of being scaled out then maybe you could teach a few people to do it raise your price accordingly but still below the competition and capture more of the target market you are going after
