Climb a tall tree to tell a lie? Or stay on the ground with the truth?

This is just one of those "general sigh" type posts.

I had an uncle Frank who was a schemer. He always had something going. My father would often say this about his brother; "Frank would rather climb a very tall tree to tell a lie than to stay on the ground to tell the truth."

In other words, Ol Unc was a hard working dude, was willing to sweat his ass off while looking for the short cut.

Recent posts have reminded me of my uncle. One guy wants to make up words and hire Filipinos to "spam" forums (although it isn't spam in his mind). Another guy wants to sell his magic money making elixir to the masses.

Still another wants to sell his traffic building WSO and asks how to get traffic to his site.

SIGH.

My Uncle was an interesting man, did a lot of things. Bounced from one scheme to the next and spent tens of thousands of dollars on this thing and that. It wasn't until late in his life that he discovered what he loved doing, (being a farmer) and he had great success at it cause he finally "stayed on the ground" and simply ground away at ONE thing, loving what he was doing and finishing his life on a solid and strong note.

I see a forest full of Sequoia trees growing here. A few of you would be well advised to plant some corn and reap the harvest that comes with growing a business, rather than trying to get the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, which, you might be able to see from the top of the tree.

OK, my sigh of the day is done, back to WORK for me.

I would rather stay on the ground building an airplane of truth to evntually soar over the liars in the treetops.

It may seem like it takes longer, but in the long run, it's the only way to go. Besides, it's WAY too easy to fall out of a tree.

    All the best,

      Thanks Michael,

I like that image of a plane. Most people may attempt to build a plane, even get it started, but they forget to take the chocks away and end on high idle.

"Kick out the jams" and soar above the buzzards. Thanks.

Very well said. Two important quotes by
Alan Greenspan come to mind here:

"The true measure of a career is to be able to be content,
even proud, that you succeeded through your own endeavors
without leaving a trail of casualties in your wake."

    AND

"I do not deny that many appear to have succeeded in a
material way by cutting corners and by manipulating
associates, both in their professional and in their
personal lives. But material success is possible in this
world and far more satisfying when it comes without
    exploiting others
    ."

That is a good story about farmer Frank. It speaks to me because I have gotten caught up in the mental loop of trying to short cut everything OR refusing to begin anything until it is "perfect" which is like trying to plant a fully grown tree ready to produce fruit, but only being willing to pay what it would cost to buy a single seed. No more of that nonsense.

Dr. Kilstein's points about 'but unless you pick a destination...' has spoken to me, too. I recently had to make a decision between "doing what I love" or "loving what I do". What I mean is, I had to decide if I wanted to keep aiming the kind of dream I was NOT having fun attempting to achieve or decide on a dream I could enjoy WHILE I pursued it - if that makes sense?

It was hard for me because I do not want to be a person that leaps around from one idea to the next. Much of my childhood was spent watching people I admired do exactly that so I want to learn better examples to follow. It is not easy to change, but if Frank can then I will, too, and do it now.

Thank you for sharing that story, it helped me piece things together more tightly

True...though you can't fault the WF population for coming in fast and furious, with plans of making millions.

It's important to find what you do and do it well...but remember, a lot of us in here are still trying to find out what exactly that is.
