Google Reader - How Do You Avoid Splogs?

Looking for some advice about Google Reader & Blog Commenting.
Basically I've set up the reader to tell me about new blog posts with my keywords. The plan is to then comment on the article and make the reply long enough to be a blog post.
Now the trouble is that all the blogs I'm finding are splogs, they all have poorly written articles with no comments, so how do I filter out these splogs and get to the real content?
Or should I just be concentrating on writing my own articles and dominating the niche as my blog will become the best due to it having real hand written content?
