Question about Domain Names

Ive read where some people say as long as a domain name starts with your keyword(s) included that an extra word following will not affect the search results to awful much. Question what about adding a hyphen? For example keyword-blog.com or keyword-fansite.com

... or breaking up keywords like keyword1-keyword2.com

Yes, that would be fine - if you can't get the exact match.

It's good to include keywords in your domain name also register your domain more than 2 years because search engine will know your site is to stay long and not spammy.

Hyphens certainly don't hurt SEO (and if your web page title is different from your keyword it can help), but they absolutely kill type-in traffic, which is something to keep in mind if you have a content website that'll be visited regularly.

The best domains to use don't have a hyphen in them. Look at any top Internet marketer's site or blog and you'll see none with hyphens. If you're making a quality site, then I wouldn't use a hyphen in your domain...

Now, for a affiliate lp that's a different story.

Registering your domain for multiple years is a SEO myth, read it in any top seo blog.

Having your keyword in your domain name does help you rank for it. Adding a extra word probably wouldn't affect it to much. The domain name just lets search engines know what the site is about.

    hope that helps,

Also keep in mind that hyphens lower the resale value.

  • In my experience, adding a word to the keyword phrase on the domain name is much better than a hyphenated domain.

I prefer mine without any funny "interlinking bits". Also could cause typo errors for people who are not as literate and may not know what a hyphen is. Imagine if you want to give your domain name over the phone to someone. Kind of the same theory as difficult to spell words
