Autoresponder & Email Marketing - How To Build My Own?

Ok,

Hopefully I can get some direction and advice off a few people on here regarding this.

I currently use AWEBER for all my email marketing and autoresponder services and have many lists with them. Now I am thinking of building my own "Aweber". How could I go about building my own Aweber? I want to build my own email marketing autoresponder platform.= but havent got a clue how to or wher to start??

Anyone have any advice with this? and is it possible to build my own company that does the same as Aweber??

Advice greatly appreciated!

    1. You don't.
For simple reasons. It's expensive (either in terms of money and/or time spent). Then you need extreme backup routines, UPS, and security measuers that are rock solid - imagine being hacked and losing thousands of customer's e-mail lists - ouch. Oh, and more backup.

Then you'd need to offer something Aweber or Getresponse don't. You need to convince people to use your new service over the two giants that have been around for 9 years. Not impossiböe - it's called marketing - but not cheap or quick either.

    2. If you still want to do it, you can choose between readymade scripts, or have someone program the platform for you. Regardles of which you opt for you need to check the security of the script/solution/provider very closely. An Elance guy offering to do it for $500 will not be your best option.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but there are easier things to make money from than this. If you do it I hope you will do great.

You can go to Rentacoder, guru.com or Elance to create the software you need.

I agree with Markus. It would be a long haul to get where Aweber currently is. You would have a very tough time building the relationships with ISP's so that emails from your service don't get deleted instead of delivered.

      Thanks for the replies people!

How would you build relationships with ISPs?

Also the reason I am doing this is not to compete with Aweber or GetResponse as I have found a niche that could potentially make me alot of money.

At the moment I am making money going through Aweber with this but I want my own company and software with my name on it not Awebers basically.

It isnt to compete, I mean the service I want to offer is not aimed at internet marketers at all.

So I need pointing in the right direction as to go about building my own platform well and safely!

      Any Ideas?

If you want your own brand then the easiest option is to look at Aweber (and maybe Getresponse). Certainly Aweber offer a 'branded' solution were it looks like your autoresponder but Aweber runs it for you. A number of high profile IM'ers do this including Mike Filsaime.

I'm curious... who would pay for an autoresponder service other than Internet marketers? That's what an autoresponder is for, marketing on the Internet.

I thought about this too and it could be a good idea to build your own if you don't want to compete with Aweber and the likes. One possible way to use your own autoresponder is to sell the service to offline businesses. Offline businesses can benefit a lot by using such a tool, so instead of selling them the service on Aweber, why not sell it on yours? Also if you sell the service, you can do some upsell, such as taking care of their email marketing and consultation.

I believe you will make more money that way than if you sell an autoresponder service that's not yours. I don't think it cost that much money to manage an autoresponder service, but I could be wrong. The initial cost might be high to get things going, but it's an investment.

I wouldn't try it myself but if you had to do it I would post the job up on Elance but get ready to get some high bids.

This might interest you: autoresponder hosting script

Its cheap and comes with free installation.

This is ideal for your own personal use or you can offer members
in your membersite site free use of autoresponders. Of course
this cannot compete the big dogs.

You could start your own autoresponder service of sorts for a few hundred dollars. There are some ready-made scripts out there.

However, if you want to equal Aweber, it would take a minimum of 10's of thousands of dollars and some mighty talented programmers. If you have that kind of money and determination, go for it.
