Now you can opt out of G.Analytics tracking you

Posted this since this was a pretty heavily discussed topic in the past about the whole privacy deal and how google is tracking everything etc...

Download and install that, works for ie/fireforx/chrome and then when you visit a website that has g.analytics installed it wont record your visit at all.

PS: I searched and didn't see this posted

Just wandering...why would you want to not be be tracked by google? Is it some conspiracy against analytics.

Yeh, noticed a thread the other day about this. Are they idiots? This just makes their analytics less valuable. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

I'd be more interested in *why* they have done this.

Maybe to prevent your own traffic being picked up by analytics.. I go to my own sites often. Not sure if that has much effect though.

Good point Toby, but they do have a filter ip for that which I use most of the time. Weird, maybe somebody can shed some light..?

I doubt it won't record any information. I mean, that would render Analytics data totally useless.

I think it will record the visit.. it probably won't store a cookie or record your actions on the website. (this would spoil your stats for goal conversion if you have it set up)

I can bet that they have done it because there are alot of people that have complained about how they collect/use their data. So I'm guessing that now that they have this out the next time that the FCC or FTC or w/e comes down on their necks they can say "but they can opt out".

Do a lot of people use this? I wonder how many directory services report false visitor statistics since us SEO webmaster folk can't trust Google Analytics now...
