the holy grail of traffic

hey everyone, I have been playing with IM the last few weeks and feel that I am stumbling a bit. I have had one sale and about 500 or so pageviews (100 of which were probably me lol). Here's my site:

guideondating dot com

Heres what I did based on the great insights I got from warrior forum:

- Made about 35 posts or so, mostly content, with some current event posts to spike traffic
- Added all posts to digg, propeller, reddit, etc.
- Created squidoo lenses for each of the keywords on the left side of the main page (in the process of digging them)
- Optimized site for SEO, by removing all extraneous external and internal links and nofollowing where appropriate
- Created authority backlinks where possible, and backlinked using blog posts and forums (I think I could do more here, though I think law of diminishing returns likely kicks in at some point)
- answered 50 or so questions on yahoo answers
- Started adding my posts as articles in ezine, already added them all to goarticles

If anyone can give me some advice on how to proceed I would really appreciate it. I'm jsut not getting the traffic I expected and now I'm hitting less than 20 visits a day..

Thanks in advance,
f.m.

That's still doing good. Took me months to get my first sale. Just keep on keeping on with what you are doing. Read and learn try a few new things, but sounds like you're on the right track, so repeat that. As a wise man once told me, "Once you find what works, build, submit, repeat, until it don't work any more.

1 sale in the first six weeks is good too.

Try some submissions to directories for backlinks. Otherwise you're on a great track.

Keep doing what you are doing right now and never give up.

Try new things and new advertising methods.

    Again, never give up.

That is the best advice I can give you.

How did you make 35 posts if you have only 3 posts?

Just keep finding long-tail keywords to rank for and repeat the steps. Be sure to include the keywords in you anchor text links and you'll soon start ranking for those keywords in the search engines if there's not too much competition. Rinse and repeat...

    Good luck,

        Here are a few ideas

==> There are no meta description or meta Keywords -> Use WordPress All in One SEO pack plugin.

==> There is no xml site map. Use the WP plugin Google Site Map Generator to create one.

==> Smart Update Pinger plugin also useful addition.

Just want to bump this up. So if I understand I should just keep posting and trying to hit longtail keywords. I am willing to put in the work, i guess I was hoping for something a bit easier....no pain no gain

I shouldn't be telling my viral/easy/traffic secrets, but here goes:

Create something that you offer as a free download, with a backlink to your site.

              My #1 example and recommendation:

CREATE A FREE WORDPRESS THEME (of course with a link at the bottom that says, theme created by : yoursite)

Once you get it out there (granted it must be of good quality, so people actually download and use your theme) you would be amazed at the traffic you will see... that will continue to increase the more it is distributed.

You can also do this by offering free PLR ebook downloads with your links, the ways you can do this viral technique is endless...

Think Outside The Box... don't do what everyone else is doing, try something new!

              - Jared

          Excellent advice.

You need Google analytics (or some such tool) to help you determine where your traffic is coming from and what keywords are converting.

          Now....

If I am single guy searching for info on how to meet girls and dating then I have a specific need, namely "How do I get this girl to go out with me???"

If this is the audience you are pursuing, then focus on meeting this one specific need.

When I first came to your site I saw the following:
          Guide on Dating
          How To's, Articles, Product Reviews

If I am a guy in need of dating advice I don't care about 'Product Reviews' or 'Articles'.

Even the 'How To's' is only mildly enticing because it doesn't specifically address my need, my core question of "How do I get this girl to go out with me???"

The very first thing people should see is something that promises to answer their question and fill their need.

You have about 2-3 seconds to get your visitor's attention and give them hope that your site is the holy grail of advice that they CRAVE. If you don't do this then the visitor gets bored and clicks the back button.

Instead of trying to get more visitors that will just click the back button after 2 seconds, focus on catering to the needs of your visitors.

In a phrase, Give them what they want!

And give them a reason to come back. Promise to deliver more great content in the future and then actually deliver!

          </2 cents>

Thank you Debra, will use pingler immediately! nick good point, will think about an overarching sales message to guide the user experience.

            2 questions:

            1. Only 5 of my pages are indexed, are backlinks the only way to ensure the rest get indexed.

            2. How do I determine which pages I should focus on. If my pages aren't indexed I have no idea if people would actually be searching for them. i.e. in google analytics I can only track the keywords used to bring up indexed pages.

Thanks alot everyone for all the advice, I have seen a jump in my traffic based on your advice

    My suggestion:

    1. Join related forum and find more long tail keywords, at the same time identify the problems and solution from the forums or Yahoo Answer.
Search Ezinearticles for related articles, use the forum research result to look for related articles, you can write few of them if you can't find them. compile them into ebook, use popup to capture leads.

    2. Write good copy to capture lead, list the problems from your research in your popup to increase opt-in rate.

    3. Regroup your webpage links, you should have main category, then sub category, then your articles. If you use XSitePro to build your site, your can do that easily, this will increase your search engine ranking for each articles.

    4. Write more articles to Ezinearticles, use the long tail keywords from the research.

    5. Continue to track your article views, if you find some articles with good views, find more related keywords, focus your effort on those keywords.

    6. Use those "Golden keywords" to restructure your site and write more articles surrounding it, set a link with proper keyword back to your site.

    7. Build back links for your site on those keywords, use web 2.0 to host those "Golden keywords" articles, you want to spread your articles to different web 2.0 sites to build traffic and back links.

Above is just my suggestion, you should modify it to your needs!

    Last advise:
Just focus on one kind of traffic method, mastered it before moving on to the next...

    - To all of your success!
