Using Pseudonym Names

I was recently checking out Eben Page Double Your Dating, I mean David De Angelo Double Your Dating.

So what are your thoughts on using second names online to sell stuff or as an affiliate?

Cheers,
Mukul

I think it's a great idea, personally. I've got some alter-egos in planning... although there's a strange twist to them. I don't want to blow the whistle on it in public, though.

Who would choose that name? It's hard to spell and pronounce, plus it sounds like it's Asian or something.

I use a pen name in a site I started last month in a blog I started for a certain niche.

At least his name doesn't look like someone accidentally spilled their bucket of fried chicken on the keyboard. Oops, that would be my user name. Doing it a second time gets a password that would baffle Roboform.

I have considered duplicating what works
using other business and pen names.
I used to do that with my eBay stores
I was my own competition in a way.
    (there were some others)
If it works don't change it.
    But why not duplicate it.

I always use a pen name in niches...

The only stuff I released in my own name was in the IM niche, and one other.

It just makes more sense for me to be detached from the niche. It works well for me, so I don't wanna change that

What do you guys do when it comes to email lists?

I know that law requires you put a real address in mailing lists and Aweber takes care of that, but do you need to put your real name as well for that?

In the U.S. at least, there is a firm legal precedent on the books that nobody can stop you from using any name you want. You can have a list of aliases as long as your arm, and it's perfectly legal - all of them are "real."

Now, that said, you will discover that the general perception of most banks is that people with aliases are criminals by definition, and they will hassle the crap out of you.

So after doing business as Caliban Darklock for seventeen years without "legally" changing my name, I finally got tired of those hassles and filed the paperwork.

Actually, it was my wife. SHE got tired of the hassles, and "gave" me the name change as a birthday present. I can honestly say it's one present I carry with me everywhere I go.

Yeah. As long as you put it out there and you do not do anything to disprove the connection between you and the alias then for all intents and purposes that is you.

        Funny how banks are when you have more than one alias. Shhhhhhhhhh . . . that's me . . . no it's not . . . so this is not your money . . . yes it is . . . but you just said it's not you . . . it is . . .

Yes I can see why banks would be a little suspicious.

Pen names all the way! I don't want that people who buy from the "live healty" niche discover that I'm also promoting "cuban cigars", "BBQ Grills" and "tequila party all night tickets".
My rule... 1 niche 1 name. as affiliate marketer I don't see any harm on that.

But be careful when you pick your name, you don't want to enter the vegan market and call yourself Jack LoveSteak or something like that.

If you are having trouble finding a good name pick a random one from here (non affiliate link)

This is one of the major things that have collectively convinced me privacy is nothing more than a tool people use to tell lies without getting caught.

Not being such a big fan of people who try not to get caught telling lies, I come down more or less on the side of destroying privacy altogether.

You have the strangest opinion on this issue CD, imho, of course.... I don't understand your logic on this one at all (based on a previous discussion when you aired your views)

But, each to their own, I'm not into debating it to death with ya Just thought I'd mention that I find it a little weird, no biggie.

My uncle Pedro during 20 years sold hunting equipment in a store, he knew all about hunting and guns and traps, however he never fired a gun himself.

He wasn't a hunter he was a salesman and everybody knew him as Pete and was the best salesman I knew.

That's irrelevant. The question is whether he wanted people not to know this.

If he didn't want his customers to know he had never fired a gun, that is basically a lie.

If he didn't want his family and friends to know he sold guns, that is basically a lie, too.

If he told his family and friends and customers without shame or reservation that while he sold guns, he did not use them... that's fine. Nothing wrong with that.

But when someone says "I don't want anyone to know what I'm doing," chances are they shouldn't be doing it. And if there's nothing wrong with what they're doing, chances are it wouldn't matter if people knew about it. The general fear around people knowing who you are and what you do just confuses and disturbs me.
