One "authority" site or many specific product sites?

So i am just wondering what do you think is a better adsense/amazon affiliate model. Lets say for example my niche is "brand A" ceiling fans and i have found several decent keywords to target. These are all basically model id keywords. Would it be better to create one super website with a general domain name like "best ceiling fans" and create seperate pages for each model that i want to target OR would it be worth it to purchase each available exact keyword domain and put up a bunch of websites of only a couple pages on that specific model.

Also note, some of the keywords to target include the brand name so if i was to do domains for each product i would eliminate the brand name and just use the model id but the content would target the full keyword with brand name.

I was leaning towards the mega site thinking that it would be an instant savings on initial money i would have to spend ( only 1 domain to buy ). It could also include a blog type front page that included content related to all the products.

This is what I am doing now:

Make one uber site, and individual mini-sites for each one of the keywords you are trying to target.

Then link your mini sites to your uber site. So not only do you get to pass on all that link power, you also cast a net around your entire niche.

Requires a lot of work though...which is why not many people do it.

That's what I was going to recommend too.

It works, but takes some time and effort.

Putting in time and effort is what separates the ones who just "want"
success, and the ones who "strive" for it. I used to write about 10 articles
per day and submit them to 10 different directories pointing at 10 different blogs, then all of those pointing to 1 main blog. After the work I had put in divided by the money I made wasn't worth my time anymore.

and individual mini-sites for each one of the keywords
Are you referring to separate domains for each keyword or by 'mini-site' do you mean a post or page on a themed site?

I recall that in an earlier thread and WSO you were using themed blogs with individual pages/posts for each product.

I've seen both used successfully. The IPK model combines both. It creates separate websites for each product and these sites also link back to a themed website which as well carries a pre-sell/ sales page for individual products.

Lately I've been leaning more towards the theme-based site as it can be very costly and time-consuming carrying hundreds of small mini-sites for individual products.

It's also easier to maintain a quality blog on a theme site. It is also simpler to focus external backlinks to a themed site than to many smaller domains.

It's also possible to have a number of related theme sites that link back to a broader theme site. For instance, golf swing, golf balls, golf clubs containing individual product pages and each site covering an important subdivision of a broader theme - golf/golfing.
