I have learned a lesson- the hard way

currently, I just got finished fightin a battle with some nasty viruses and keyloggers. I use AVG internet security and whatever it was that I had took me a total of 4 days to get rid of.

the hardest part for me was to back up my files, of which i normally do at least twice a month. this time though I had limited storage to back everythin gup and in the process, I lost 75% percent of everything I had on my pc.

the good thing? I saved my clients files and will hopefully be back online and ready to continue by the end of the week.

I have ABSOLUTELY no idea where these viruses and keyloggers etc. came from.

but please be certain that you have eveything backedup in case of something happening to your pc. I have had to do a lot of password changing and tracking down of registration info for various programs that I use fairly regularly.

For anyone that has been waiting on me for projects, I am doing the best I can to be back online by the end of the week.

My time is up at this library so hopefully I can be back to normal soon!

I had some nasty viruses but system restore has always saved the day. Did you try that? Takes your computer back in time when it last had a safe configuration, 2 days, 2 weeks, how ever long.

Its in Start, accessories, system tools, system recovery.

Everyone else should make sure its turned on and enabled. You will be very thankfull if you ever need it.

    Agreed.. what a mess.

I used to have an external drive that I would backup everything on. The problem was I had to either automate it or remember to do it.

Recently I started using an online backup service ( Carbonite ) and I love it. There are others as well, but this one allows me "set it and forget it" for $50 a year. It automatically backs up new files and you get tell it what you wish backed up and what you don't want backed up. I have a 400 gig hard drive and I could back up everything on it if I wanted. There is no limit.

As a designer, I use Mozy to keep everything backed up. So far it's been great.

Well I feel Safe enough now to update my pc, the funny thing is (at least to me) is windows update I have 127 updates to install, but at least I have a semi working internet connection now. thanks to my neighbor letting me use his wireless network connection.

I do have avg internet security, and will be using other measures form now on to protect my pc. (of course getting a new pc may be more useful if I can talk the missus into it!)

I can't seem to get my sound working though. I think I need drivers for multmedia devices? any suggestions?
