Can a Video Show Up in Google If There Are None Now?

It's no secret Google love videos, especially those on their Youtube channel. We can outrank tons of established sites with a video listing.

That's all fine and dandy, but many listings show NO video results. As a comparison, Google Maps results show up or not according to certain keywords, and big G decides if there's a listing or not.

I wonder if it's the same logic for videos, or it's simply because some keywords have videos that don't get enough backlinks to show? According to Market Samurai stats, I've seen Youtube videos in the top 10 with 0 backlinks!

I want to promote some videos to rank in competitive terms, but I see no point doing it if I'll never rank anyway. I wonder if someone has tested it or knows more about this.

    Hi Jay,

This is an area I have considerable experience in. Obviously no one knows Google's algorithm, however through trial and error I have discovered some very interesting strategies for how Google ranks video.

My techniques involve the identification and tagging of video retainers through a process I call Google validation. There is a formula I use that identifies these video retainers, and from then on it is pretty straight forward to use these video retainers for sensational ranking.

Google Maps works well to get onto front page placement, but I dont think people pay them no where near the attention that video gets.

You eyes are naturally drawn to the thumbnail images of a video.

I have not fully tested this as you have, but I do understand the use of tags in Youtube to get great results on Youtube itself.

My question is more to the fact that many Google listings show NO video results, and I wonder if with a good SEO strategy we can have ours show in these listings, OR if those specific keywords will never show video results anyway.

Yes they can :-) it takes time and some backlinks but if you work a 'verb' into the keyword phrase and optimize the video property, you can create your own video retainer annd get your video to appear on page one ...

Video retainer bill is a term i coined for a video 'holding place'

I'll test a few out and see if I can get a listing. I'm not trying to beat a video in the listings, I'm trying to put a video in a listing for the 1st time. We'll see

Basic Video SEO is a must (i.e. keyword(s) in title, description & tags) but remember Google loves algorithms (i.e. numbers) and what do videos have that make it easy for Google (especially from YouTube) to count...views, # of comments and now likes / dislikes.

I posted this maybe a week ago, I helped a friend of mine rank on the first page of Google for his business's keyword phrase with nothing but sending some views his way (btw, Google the phrase, scuba diving Philadelphia, and you'll see two videos listed at the bottom of the results). And this really is only effective for long-tail keyword(s)...

But I have seen videos on the 1st page for highly searched phrases in relatively short periods of time, here's a tip...videos about "how to..." really perform well.

Also, check out ReelSeo.com, it's a site/blog Video Marketing, Video SEO, etc., they can give you some more tips.

If there's no video showing then you have a good chance of getting your video on google just by creating one exactly matching the keyword phrase.

Do a search for your keyword phrase on youtube to see if there's a video there with a title that exactly matches the keyword phrase...if not then your chances are usually excellent.

If it's a highly competitive keyword phrase or if you want the video to stay on the first page or two of google you'll probably have to get some backlinks to that video as well.

      Kindest regards,
