How do you promote a contest?

I recently started a contest on my blog about blogging:
Blogtap Contest #1: Win Ad Space, Content w/ Resell Rights, High PR Backlinks Galore Marketing Blogtap.net

I've already emailed a few bloggers I know, asking them to re-tweet the post and the contest is designed to be viral (you can better compete by spreading word about the contest on the web).

Other than what I have already done, how else can I promote the contest? I feel I need to promote the contest somewhere to get it kick-started. I've got about 200 daily visitors but most of them are from search engine traffic (about 20 visitors are actual returning visitors). I fear that the readership that I have won't take interest in competing.

What do you think? What am I doing wrong? Are the rewards enough? Feedback would be MUCH appreciated.

    I just held a contest on my blog a couple of weeks ago. You need to keep promoting it. Go to as many blogs in your niche and start leaving valuable comments on their blog posts. If they are using commentluv then make sure you select the contest post to link to.

    I'll retweet it and promote it on my site for you. Looks like some cool prizes. I will tell you though it looks kind of complex with the point system and most of your readers probably aren't smart enough to figure this all out. Just speaking from experience.

      Thanks for re-tweeting and the solid advice!

      I thought about how complex the point system is and, your right, if someone doesn't take time to understand the rules they will not compete. I am hoping that the magnificence of the prizes will cause them to spend a little extra time learning the rules. I guess we will see how this all turns out. This is my first contest so it may just turn out to be a learning experience for me.

    Try contacting blogs that writes about contest. Find people who would like to sponsor the contest. They should post the contest in their blog too so you got multiple effect.

        Hey guys - the contest it taking off a bit. I think it has a lot to do with fact that I recently had a guest blog post published on a major blog in my niche.
