My product's being stolen...HOW?!

Hey warriors,

This is my first time having my own product and it's been a long process of tweaking but I've made a few sales and know what I have to do to increase that in the future.

When I was less experienced I had a thank you page along the lines of "thank_you.html" and a few people were able to download my product for free. Duh.

I changed it to something that nobody could ever guess, a random collection of characters and numbers with the word thank you in the middle, and since have still had 1 random person show up on my purchased list in aweber.

The new thank you page is definitely not on the site map. How are people finding this page address to subscribe to my purchase list??

Thanks warriors for shining some light on this.

Your download page may have gotten indexed in a search engine, or someone who has bought may have shared the page location with someone, there are several ways this could have happened.

This is exactly why most seasoned marketers will tell you that you need your download pages behind some kind of password protection system. The system you use will depend on your personal needs, but I highly suggest you do some research on all the possible methods which are available as paid and free products which can protect your downloads.

there alot of ways that people can find your product...and most of them do it by legally using google. I don't know how many people know of the command inurl on google so you can see stuff. Also you can search filetypes on a specific domain..ex: yourbook.pdf inurl:www.yoursite.com....or filetype: pdf site:www.yoursite.com or you can just simply use yourbook.pdf on google...and if the crwaler has index it it will show up. Also there is a plugin for mozzila that they can see almost your entire website structure because it changes the ID of the user from a regular internet browser to google's crawler, so you will see that google's crwaler entered your website.

EDIT: Those of you that have membership can REALLLY be affected by this...they can access all your info using that plugin if you dont have it protected or at least all your pages with nofollow and denied robots acces.

I've learn those stuff when I did a google course locally for a college project. And if they use one of the methods above you can't really do anything to them...because they will just blaim it on google for offering this resource.

I have also heard that it can be done trough alexa too..but I have no idea about that.

No one will be able to locate my download pages without authorization, because it doesn't exist. And the products themselves don't ever have the same file name, I just create a new download page and a new file every single time.

On top of that, I watermark the individual pages with the buyer's name.

Those things sorta cut down on the ripoffs...
