Blog Commenting is Dead

Hey All,

I wonder if people could share their experiences with the effectiveness of getting back links from blogs. I've been doing this for a while and I wonder now if the effect is still as good.

I mean from high page rank pages that are not spammed to death also. So PR 3+ stuff with under 20 links on the page.

Do you think that Google still values these links at all?

less than 20 external is too good.. I think 50 is fine. Blog Commenting is one of the key factors for link building for all of my sites. I use blog commenting, profile links , articles , social bookmarking etc. Do manual posting on good blogs and do not spam it

They don't make the most valuable links possible, but given the cost/time to effectiveness ratio it makes it worth it. Just try to be smart about it and use other methods as well.

Yes, I think google still values those kind of links. One thing I have noticed if that links from blog commenting get indexed quite fast.

A problem with blog comment links is they become less valuable over time, as more people discover and post a comment the number of OBL on the page shoots up.

Always a good idea to have a diverse link profile.

        Thanks for the feedback all.

I just wonder if Google devalues these links, as they are the easiest to spam.

I will keep using them as part of my overall link portfollio

        Thanks

Remember, blog commenting is not 100% about raising your page rank, it is also about driving traffic to your sites. Well written and relevant comments are a fantastic way to grab someone's attention. This is why it is important that you actually contribute something to the conversation that is happening. More and more often comments like "nice blog" or "great site" are being labelled as spam which doesn't do a thing for your traffic or your page rank.

Ye but Jack, over time the page will grow in PR, so the value will go up. The page value will be higher, but the number of links sharing that juice will increase, so will they balance out? Some will, some will not.

Bottom line, it will still be better to get those links than to not get them. Don't you think?

I started my blog and with in eight weeks through commenting on other peoples blogs and writing articles, I was amazed that I got a PR1 now I know that is the lowest but I thought that 8 weeks was a very short time to get it. I would say that all my commenting got me this.

You can't really measure increasing your page rank like that since google only officially updates page rank three (four) times a year. So your site may be page rank 2 right now but it'll only reflect being page rank one until the next update.

Aside from that, keep on truckin'

Value is there. But you need pages with less OBL, niche related and PR ranked pages. It will help to increase SERP.

    Blog commenting is not dead.

And there is *one* solution to keep your links in high PR pages with just a few links... Create your own small network of blogs. It's not that hard and G loves unique content, even blogs talking about everyday issues show some good SEO profile.

Just my 2 cents based on personal experience.

People have been saying that BLOG commenting is dead for ages now, I still use it as a way to drive traffic and generate backlinks but it's only one way from many. It's better to have a broad link building strategy than to concentrate on just one area.
