Internet Marketing Is Recession Proof...Here's Why.

I know there's been a lot of questions about this lately, the economy is unstable, and people are worried about the economy and their money.

I'm convinced that internet marketing is recession proof, and one of the best possible businesses to be in right now.

Why? I can list a million reasons, but here are just a few...
  • When people are tight on cash they'll bargain hunt online instead of paying retail.

  • Everyone always needs mortgages, foreclosure help, debt relief, insurance, and plenty of other good stuff that you can promote via CPA offers.

  • When times are tough people look for extra ways of earning income. Work from home or online niches are going to be hot for awhile.

  • Domain names have proven to be (in most cases) much smarter and less risky investments than stocks.

  • Local businesses need to advertise, online advertising is one of the easiest forms of advertising to track, and you can help them and make money in the process.

  • As an internet marketer you could be a doctor, lawyer, dietitian, insurance agent, porn mogul, whatever you want to promote, you can promote it. We're not stuck to selling just one thing, this is one job where you can really be anyone that you want to be.

  • The internet isn't going anywhere. The demand for online advertising, ecommerce, SEO, anything related to the internet is going up, not down.

I'd rather have my money in Adwords than the stock market right now. At least when that crashes I can pull out and save some face.

I'd go as far as saying that a bad economy CAN be a good thing for internet marketers, if they approach the right niches and solve problems that the economic crisis presents.

I'd say internet marketing is as recession proof as any business. What do you guys think?

I agree to some extent. It's when people can't afford your $97 program that you'll think twice about being recession proof.

The truth is, a recession means ALL business suffers. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a recession. Think about it = supply and demand. If you have demand (people buying) then you'll have businesses thriving.

You can't have a thriving economy with no buyers.

So whilst you're kinda right, I would also say that no business is recession proof entirely. If things get bad, how well will your online business cope when people can't afford an internet connection?

The truth is the internet streamlines business and saves money. Things would have to get REALLY bad, like apocalyptic bad, before the majority of the western world doesn't have internet access.

And you're right, maybe they can't afford the $97 ebook. But they can probably use help with preventing foreclosure, debt relief, finding lines of credit, ect.

While I'll agree that a recession hurts all businesses, I still think internet marketing is one of the most likely businesses to thrive during a recession.

When you're selling SUV's for a living and the demand dies down, you get a new job.

When you're involved with internet marketing, you create or promote a new product, we've got a lot of versatility, at least a lot of us do.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from and I totally agree. That's why I'm about to launch two products in two of the biggest markets to profit from the recession so I do not disagree at all;-)

It all depends on who you're marketing to and what market you're in. I always come on this forum and imagine people selling yeast infection books or debt relief books and when people say "I'm not scared of the recession" I think, man, are you sure?

But I forget that there are a lot of smart cookies around here who exploit the right markets at the right time.

I guess my point is this:

In a recession, don't try and take the poor man's money. Go for the greedy b@@@@rds who saw it coming and are hiding in a marble floored bunker :-)

Rather than agreeing or disagreeing, I will say that the great thing about marketing online with a direct response approach is instead of spending thousands on a campaign, you can do a "test spend" while split/multi testing in the area of business you're currently in, decide to enter, etc.

    Best,

I like your vibe, and applies to markets in both on the upswing and downswing...........focus on providing real solutions << that's the key in any market.

I'd like to add that with the "information" economy Matt just mentioned in his video (cool intro by the way), I work in a market that is flourishing right now that provides solutions to the educational and information marketing businesses...and I am referring to BIG businesses, universities, educational markets, e-learning solutions, platforms, etc.

To translate that to a warrior forum point of view, it's basically saying that you're probably not going to see companies like Aweber go out of business anytime soon because of the solutions they provide.

The main thing you have to do is pay attention to the basic principles of search engine optimization. Have great content, Make sure your site is easily 'crawled' by the search engines. Don't engage in any tricky stuff that might get you banned.
