Is Hostgator Necessary?

Hi, I've been wondering, is Hostgator a necessity for online marketing? I joined The Niche Blogger just to see what the hype is about and thought maybe I could learn more about marketing, and I see that almost everyone seems to say you need Hostgator to host your domains.

That's where I have an issue. I've been using Limedomains for the past year for my domains, and I use their "free hosting" service. Meaning I only pay for my domains. Free hosting seems to work out well, I've managed to get my site from pages 1-4 with certain keywords, and I haven't paid for any hosting and it's still up there.

I know Hostgator has an affiliate section and that's probably why I see it advertised alot. But what I want to know do I need to spend the money on a monthly fee to be a successful marketer. I don't think so, but would like opinions

Thanks
#hostgator

Nothing overly brilliant about Hostgator. I use them and so do many others.

You're right though - it's an easy affiliate program to promote and one of the best paying, hence why many will "recommend" them.

But, my concern is, is it necessary to have? (I'm not trying to pursuade anyone from joining, just want to know if it is really necessary to have since I'm on a tight budget) I read somewhere on here that some one made quite a bit of money just with free stuff.

Ever had a dedicated server with them? Not fast, not overly secure, and support is poor. For 99% of people who have no need for a high load server (ie shared, reseller) then HostGator are great. If you have quite high requirements and specifications I wouldn't recommend them.

When I have had problems with hostgator, which is rare, I have always talked to a Texan. I'm not against having tech support in the middle east or russia or someplace else like most every other company in the world...

    But...

It sure feels good to be heard, understood, and dealt with, Texas style.

Hostgator isn't a necessity but as mentioned above they are reliable. I like that they are a BIG business so I feel fairly certain that I am not going to wake up one day and find out they have shut down. And they provide great customer service.

I'm sure there is other hosting out there that is just as good.

The thing is that if you keep your domain and your hosting in the same place, you run the risk of losing both if they suddenly go out of business. It has happened before as I'm sure many people here will remember. So it's always good to keep them in separate places so you minimize the risk.

    Hello,

    Frank the tank

If you get everything you need from a free host then no you do not need it.

Don't worry about what others are doing, do what works for you.

Want to know the secret to marketing there is none...

Now when you want to get more advance (no one says you need to) installing your own scripts, then I think you would need to get a reg hosting account which offers this type of advancement.

Be it hostgator, ehostinggiant, host4profit, bluehost, godaddy hosting, and thousands of others... Contact support of the hosting company first to see if they allow you to run the scripts you need to run.

I have scripts that hostgator don't allow but they are allowed on ehostinggiant...
again I have scripts that are not allowed on ehostinggiant or hostgator but
allowed on host4profit... and so on....

You do not need to have a paid hosting account to make money online.

You don't even need any hosting account to make money. one example:

Get a PLR ebook have affiliate links in it put it on ebay. No hosting needed.

    Hope this helps

Foe the average marketer HostGator are great. Hosting multiple domains, securely with good server speeds. Although there are many hosting companies out there that also offer the same features as HostGator. The biggest plus for me is the customer support.

Although if your free hosting is serving you well then stick with it, HostGator will not make or break you as a marketer, you just need a reliable host.

Not necessary, for the first 6 months of IM I never used host gator until I wanted to have my own blog, and it was with another host that was $3 a month LOL but they only had 1 domain support, it was only when moved into more niches that I switched over to host gator.

Word out to newbies out there: if you're building 1-3 page static sites, go with free host (that offers no ads)
