IM for Non-Business Types of People

I can tell this is going to be one of the most popular threads ever

I might get blasted for posting this, but I'm just curious if there are any other "non-business" types of people out there making IM work for them.

I could be wrong in saying this, but in a very general sense I would consider those in education (teachers), healthcare (nursing), social workers, counselors, etc, as non-business types.

If you are one of these types of people, what areas of IM do you find manageable?

That's because those types don't typically run businesses in the first place and never planned to. The ones you know about or the ones bringing in traffic numbers are doing so as a result of their ability to share information and content through the web and other mediums. Most of them don't even see what they have as a business, and often if they even have a way of monetizing them it's simply nice side income and not all that much.

    If you're building a business or a company, then you're building a business or a company...not just a blog.

What a strange question, since I would tend to think that once you are making IM work, you are no longer a "non-business" type of person.
