How to avoid getting on lists you can't get back off

Hi,

This is just a quick tip for those who aren't yet aware of how to avoid getting on lists just because someone is after your email in exchange for something.

It's a free service called Mintemail MintEmail - Disposable/Temporary Email Address

You can randomly create a temporary email account for a period you define. It will also auto-confirm for you so you don't even need to get the email and click on the link.

    Yea,

    I had a bunch of people grab a very valuable product of mine using a similar service. It was access to a membership site. I locked them all out and blocked the IPs. I searched around and found a forum where they all congregated and All, not most, all of them were rip off artists. What they do is post your offers on their boards and race in, en masse and use the service to get your goodies.

    In my case they were actually stealing as they got around the payment processor. Thieves gravitate to those type of services IMHO.

    Not to say there aren't legit reasons to use them.

    Wow,

    I suppose when people are after your stuff, they'll use any method to get it.

    I thought there were enough forums sharing everyones products directly through file hosting sites for people not to need tactics like that - but I guess not.

    At least, if they went to those lengths - they must've liked your product/site

    It's good to hear you pro-actively shut the door on them though.

    There's one particular IMer who if I'd known of this email service before I first gave him my email address - I'd have saved myself hundreds of unwanted emails.

    They will go to any lengths. I know they "share" on all those sites but I went out of my way to ignore them. In my case Ignorance is Bliss.

    I couldn't ignore 50 emails coming in from so and so @ GorillasWithSmellyArmpits.com (really that was the email service name)

      George I'm agreeing with you on this people do bad thing steal other
      peoples work but look at from a different way, lets say a small portion
      who steal your work and ending up liking it the chances are the next
      time you release something they might buy it!!!

      Just a far out thought...

      But I can understand why some people do the things they do because
      of circumstances forcing them to find ways of getting your product
      because they have been burnt so many times...been promise a place
      in heaven but ended up in hell...from buying other products that didn't
      work for some reason...LOL

      But again let me say thing I'm not agreeing people should steal other
      peoples work, I've seen a couple of my product been pass around
      on a couple forums what can you do change stuff around but they always
      find a way back in.

      If you have a premium Yahoo email account (19.95 a year I think) you can do this too, set up as many alternate addresses as you want. They don't expire, but you can delete them whenever you want.

      I must be lucky, I've never yet had a problem unsubbing from a list but just in case I use an alt email.

      He does - but they never make any difference.

    You can create disposable email addresses with just a regular (free) Yahoo account. You choose a prefix, which is set for ALL your disposable emails, and then each new one you just add something to identify the list.

    It looks something like this:

    alias-customizablebithere@yahoo...

    Example: thenightowl-freetrafficbonazaramaflood@yahoo.com

    When that person sells your email address to a list broker despite swearing black and blue at sign up time that no such thing will happen, you just click "snip" on that address and it disappears!

    P.S. Oh! Just for the record, I don't actually use that as my alias... so if you get some abusive S.O.B. on your list using that one, it ain't me, okay?

    P.P.S. Re: the comment above regarding the sale of email addresses... To be fair, if your machine gets infected with spyware or something like that, then it might be possible for those email addresses to be shared. Dunno. Not that much of a tech-head. Anyone?

    Unfortunately it can get you from both sides I've been noticing a trend for the last 6-12 months, where someone buys a product, gets a refund, then the sales/customer support email for that product ends up on spam lists.

    I've had this happen at both ClickBank and PayPal. I even changed everything up at CB when they put in the new multi address system - thinking it would help me keep my sales only address sacred. Unfortunately I discovered it was shown to buyers and within 2 days of putting that brand new address into place, it was receiving spam.

    I've been considering online only help desk systems for months now because of this.

    There's one really aggressive marketeer named Cody Moya. I signed up with him and he quickly graduated from two emails a day up to four. I've gotten nearly 300 emails from him in two months! I know I could unsubscribe, but I'm seeing just how much abuse he's willing to dish out.
