A Question about sub domains

Hello to all of you i have a few questions on my sleeve that i wanted to clarify.

I've been researching for some time now, reading e-books, bought some keyword research and planned what i want to publish.

As a newbie i don't expect to earn hundreds of dollars a day/week/month, all i wanted is to somewhat see for myself that i earned even a little, lets say $5 in a month to be practical and realistic thou honestly as a 19 year old student i never earned a penny online, i have read an interesting e-book by xfactor that says he earned with autopilot websites (which i want to try one myself).

Now to my question, when building a standalone website/micro niche website is it best to buy a domain for the certain topic rather than buying a main website and just add sub-domains for the specific micro niche article ?

I found the niche that i want to focus and planning to buy a domain now, but i figured out can i just buy a home for my niches ?

for example
Domain.com/niche1

Would it be effective ?
or will it be much better to buy different domains for different niches ?

for example
niche1.com, niche2.com

Thank you and god bless to all of you,

Mike

Interesting question here. If you want to buy a domain name, the subdomains on a specific keyword, make sure that the main domain name is something generic such as BillsGolfGroup/subdomain name. The search food is for the spiders and should be rich in your subdomain name. It would also probably help you to build a blog around this keyword in order to rank better.

    Hope that helps.

    cheers

I'd get a domain name if I was you...and then build a niche blog which is monetized with adsense, clickbank etc. Shop around for hosting though....there is a ton of choice.

    Best of Luck!

IT really depends on what you want to do. When I first started off I did sub domains...great way to save money. I still have a lot of sites that I use sub domains on.

It's a great was to have an over all authority site and still meet many sub niches. You will either want to have the names relate i.e. health dot com with health dot com / diet.

Or you can pick a very generic top level domain i.e. stuff dot com with stuff dot com / trains or whatever.

sub domains don't always carry the weight in the search engines that top level ones do..you you can work around that with good seo.

Now if you are thinking of building sites to sell off eventuality, you are going to want to do a top level domain.

  • Mike,

One thing you should take into account is an exit strategy for each site. What happens if you build a niche site on a main domain (e.g., yourdomain.com/niche1/) and then someone comes along and offers to buy that site from you. Let us say it was an offer you couldn't refuse. How could you sell it to them while maintaining the integrity of the rest of your site?

That's why I recommend buying a domain name for each new niche site you develop. Sure, it will cost you $7-8 for each site, but it's a small price to pay to ensure an easy and seamless transition to a new owner if you decide to sell the business.

Now, it's possible to have a single hosting account and "add on" domains that would be found on the server under a sub-domain (e.g., niche1.yourdomain.com) or sub-directory (e.g., yourdomain.com/niche1/). This way you could reach the websites through their own individual URLs (e.g., niche1.com), even though their hosted on the same account. However, you would still need to buy a domain name for each niche site.

  • I would recommend building niche sites on their own domain names instead of building them as sub-domains or sub-directories on a main domain (to keep each site autonomous and easy to sell off).
