Wordpress + Onlywire = Slow Blog... Here is a FIX...

Greetings to all,

Just checking in with any Bloggers that might be using OnlyWire for their social bookmarking.

I was seeing HUGE delays in the load time of my SeeberConsultBlog - Like 32 seconds (using the scientific 1001, 1002, 1003 method of timing ) to get the main page to load!

Clear my browser cache, disable the OnlyWire plugin - Only 3 seconds to load...

The clue is right in my face too... In the status portion of the browser it says "Connecting to Onlywire" and "Transfering data from OnlyWire"... and while the status bar displays this info, NOTHING was happening...

So I disabled the plugin, deleted it, then reinstalled the latest version again... And *blammo* it's back to running like a speedy blog!

The moral of the story:
Check your blog site regularly
Stay on top of your plugins
Use the Status Bar on your browser

Probably the biggest help is the Status Bar!

In Firefox:
Select View from the Menu Bar, Then select Status Bar - Make sure that is checked. Now watch the bottom of your Firefox browser as you surf... Valuable information is now displayed in the Status Bar (The bar on the bottom of the Firefox window)

In Internet Explorer
Select Tools / Toolbars / Make sure that the Status Bar has a check by it, and then verify that you do see the Status Bar at the bottom of your Internet Explorer window.

Hope that helps you out!

Talk to you soon...

There were some issues the other day while we were in the middle of our hardware upgrades. Please let me know if this is still happening for you.

I just disabled the plugin moments ago because I noticed the right-side widgets of my blog not loading, and it was stuck pulling content from Onlywire. Please report when there's a fix...thank you.

UPDATE: CRAIG: It isn't the easy fix I posted apparently! Does onlywire have some ideas for us?

The status bar message is "connnecting to onlywire" and the transferring data is no longer happening.

Thanks to all for checking on this... but it looks like my method only works intermittently! The last check it took over 1 minute and still didn't load the full blog page.

        Please let us know Craig!

        Hello Craig,

        Thanks for the reply!

I was running the current 1.61 - it was just running slow connecting to your service.

There were some upgrades in the past - I had been using the Firefox icon, then the new method came out.

I was thinking that it was simply a "connector" issue due to the change of submission methods.

It was simply and easy to do... I get to do it all the time for clients!
:p Uninstall the "funky" driver and reinstall - sometimes the same version!

With all the software updates and patches, sometimes the simple "rip and reinstall" will fix nagging issues.

Shucks, as far as I know I might have been the only one experiencing the delay!

Still, this method fixed the issue for me, and has apparently helped others out...

Thanks again for the reply, and the great product.

My last submission on onlywire with Onlywire submiter has a lot of fault. More than 10 sites are not bookmarked. I'm believing to change onlywire in short time.

How are the submissions going lately, I un-installed OW a while back because of slow site.

Im thinking of just going for a few paid accounts but would be interested to hear if the submissions are going well for most people.
