Selling Product on Website?

Let's say I build a website and wanted to sell Computers (this is just an example). Say that I'm buying these computers from Wal-Mart (example #2) and raising the price slightly for profit. I don't want to buy these computers in bulk, just one at a time per customer order.

Could I just receive the payment information from the buyer, go to Wal-Mart's website and order the item with their information and have it shipped directly to them?

Could I hide the fact that it came from Wal-Mart?

Would I have to have a vendor's license?

Could anyone with experience explain? It would be greatly appreciated!

Keith

Yeah I figured it would be considered drop shipping. I have heard bad things dealing with some drop shipping companies. I was thinking of using more reputable companies like (Sams Club, Costco). Do they offer this type of service?

My opinion - scrap your whole plan, and sign up for an Amazon Associates account. Then let the people selling the product on amazon worry about the shipping, and you get your check for making a sale.

Why worry about buying anything, or keeping anything in stock, when you can make a commission for sending someone to amazon and making the sale there?

Years ago I had my own computer store - prices are so competitive that its difficult to make a profit. You have to buy thousands of memory chips to get them cheap enough to turn a profit.

And then, the technology changes so fast, what you have in stock is outdated tomorrow.

I have to agree with ~Kev~ on this, partially because I'm worried that he will sneak up on my with that camouflage hat of his. Seriously though, if you are not adding value in some way then you will not last long and/or be that successful. The amount of customers that would find your site to buy a PC that they could have bought from Walmart.com is probably negligible considering Walmart's huge advertising budget and reach.

I would suggest either going the affiliate route, which leaves you off the hook for maintenance/repairs/etc. or trying to find some way to add value. Realize that this entire segment (PC Sales) is INCREDIBLY competitive. Without buying in bulk, you will have a hard time competing with any serious vendor once you factor in service and replacement costs.

If you have something worked out with the vendor, then it could work. We dropship for customers all the time and we know that we only put the packing list in with the order. If you're doing it with a big company that does't officially dropship, the customer will get your receipt in the box and see it's for a lower price.....then confusion will set in.

      Thanks for the replies!

Well I was using computers as an example. I know that it's a flooded market and it would be very difficult to make profit selling computers. I would find a better product that has more potential.

I have looked into Amazon and in my opinion the commission you make off of each item you sell isn't very much. Plus why would someone come to my site to buy an Amazon product when they could just go to Amazon? I understand this could work but my idea below seems like it could work even better. Or am I going crazy from looking at so much IM stuff? lol

What I was wanting to do is sign up with Bonanzle since their fee's are nothing compared to Ebay's and sell Sam's Club/Costco products at a marked up price. I know its not a huge money maker but it would be some extra cash in my pocket that I could use to do bigger and better things in Affiliate Marketing. I guess I need to find out how Costco/Sams Club shipping works and how I could be sneaky about this or just find a drop shipper that has quality products that I could make a profit from.

The way I do it - I post content on my blog - reviews, articles, videos,,,, then have amazon banners where people can buy the products I post about (or related stuff).

Another thing I was doing - I have a forum that I put some amazon banners on. People visited the forum, then purchased stuff after they clicked an amazon banner.

Provide the readers with content - then provide them with a place for them to buy products related to the content.

    • or you can talk to wholesalers explain your great ideas make arrangements or pass proposals so you can compete with the price from Walmart or even lower your price since you don't need to worry about any expenses.

I can usually make about $1000.00 or more at Christmas selling Hot ebay toys by drop shipping using wal-mart, target, sams, best buy, Amazon even using the product web site. You have to list the item fast 1 day buy it now auctions.

Here is the Key to my ebay Christmas system; only works on “Hot Selling Items”. 1st find a Hot Seller 2nd Buy one more at your local store.. Then list your item 1 day auction, soon as it sells drop ship and relist for another sale.. If you can not find a retailer that has any in stock.. Ship the one you have in stock.. Then start shopping for more.

Couple years ago were my best year doing this. I made over $5000.00 on the Wii consoles.
