An Internet Marketing Mentor

Do you have a mentor or are you a mentor to someone else? I'm referring to an actual mentor/mentee relationship with someone as opposed to someone whose materials you've purchased and have learned a lot from.

How has mentoring helped your business?

Also, in your opinion, what are some of the best qualities that a good mentor should have?

I did not for a long time, I was making full time til I did.

#1 - Take material and run with it. Put it into practice.
#2 - Once you get a mentor, help them accomplish there goals and in exchange I am sure they would not mind you picking there brain (which they would charge a lot of money for).

The best quality, someone who has done it & someone who does not make money just teaching how to make money. My goals 7 figures, so I want to learn from someone who had done that.

    Cheers,
    Mukul

If your "mentor" is charging you money, then he is a paid coach and not a mentor.

To be clear if I go up to someone else and say, hey mentor me. They would say sure, here are my fee's for the services.

Now if I help someone reach there goals in there business, I will learn along the way and they likely would not mind be picking there brain once in a while.

I do it this way and find it works well. The one thing is that if the person had a course, I take it first to see if they are someone I want to learn from (maybe they are not), once you are a student you can build a relationship.

I did a blog post about getting on peoples radars a while back which kinda touches this topic.

        Cheers,
        Mukul

    Hi LaLaLives,

I don't have a personal mentor. What I do have is a network of like-minded people, each of which who is experienced in my industry, who I chat with on blogs and social networks each day.

The more mentors you can connect with the better. Surround yourself with positive people who are mentors in your field. Meet them on twitter and Facebook. Run a blog, write a content rich post each day and visit your mentor's blogs every single day and read their posts. Add a value-based comment. Over time they visit your blog and valuable relationships are built while your network expands.

I've learned more by following this routine over the past 2 months than any other routine.

    I hope that this helps

Responsive and dedicated. With the expanse that is the internet, you may very well have a 'mentor' that you have never actually even met--only familiar to you through blog posts, and pictures. Having a mentor that is responsive to your questions, whether through email or social media, can be VERY valuable. Of course, many may not just 'help' you free of charge....I'd have to think that most would seek something in return....even if it meant cultivating you, and your skills, to the point where you could one day work for his/her company, or something like that.

Thanks for the replies. Hmm, E. Brian Rose's comment has me thinking about the differences between a paid coach and a mentor. Besides pay, what is the difference? Ultimately, they offer the same or similar services, but I tend to think of a mentor/mentee relationship being just that -- a relationship. Whereas, I think of a paid coach as being a business arrangement. Yes, I realize that this is a type of relationship, too. It's just that a mentor/mentee relationship seems more sincere. There are no ulterior motives (with most mentors, anyway) other than wanting to satisfy a need to give back.

What do you guys think? Is there a real difference between a paid coach and an unpaid mentor?

I both coach and mentor people. The people who pay me get more of my time and the people I mentor get less. I like helping other people and retail businesses find their success with online marketing.
