Self promotion but you may want to check out the tool I developed: Visual Website Optimizer. It makes A/B testing dead-simple by providing a "visual" way of creating A/B tests.

There's a lot of really good testing scripts out there.

Where you looking for split testing or multi-variate testing?

I'd suggest multi-variate for a variety of reasons including being able to do simple A/B split tests. Split testing software can't do multi-variate testing so it's by nature less flexible in its testing abilities.

Yes, that is right. Though one should take in mind that multivariate testing may take much more time than simple A/B testing.

I'm sorry but that's wrong. A lot of tools can do both: A/B testing and multivariate testing.

Then they are a multi-variate testing tool that you are using to do a simple split test. All multi-variate software can do A/B tests and split tests.

But show me a split testing (A vs. B only) tool that can do multi-variate testing (A vs. B vs C vs etc.) and I'll point out that they are grossly understating that tools' abilities and putting their testing product at a competitive disadvantage.

You can do pure A/B testing with a basic split testing script, a simple page rotator script, or even do it manually by swapping web pages or elements after a set number of unique visitors (not recommended and way too much extra work).

My testing software can do A/B testing... split testing... page rotator testing... multi-variate testing... and I market it as a multi-variate testing tool because it is perceived as having a higher value to my target customers.

Most split testing software can only run one test at a time on a webpage.

Multi-variate testing software does not have that limitation. I've set up testing campaigns with 5 variations of 7 individual elements on a webpage at once with my multi-variate testing software.

Simple A/B testing software can't do that. Most split testing software has the same limitation.

            Take care,

            Mike

  • Google's Website Optimizer (free) in conjunction with the book Always Be Testing ($19.99 at Amazon) are a great place to start.
