Hello All,

I have been using linux for a long time now and have just gotten into IM. Is there any software to help IM for linux. I am thinking all the article submitters or niche finders or keyword tools? I do not mean under wine either.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hey Grilo,

I'm a big time Ubuntu fan... but I keep my WinVM on hand for just this reason. I suppose writing a few tools is an option, but I just haven't been willing to take on that task yet.

Unfortunately, all the best tools it seems are written for Win...

But if anyone knows anything different... I'm all ears too!

I second this opinion. This is why if you really want to take a serious approach to IM, you inevitably will have to end up installing Ubuntu or some other flavor of Linux in a dual-boot configuration with Windows on one partition!

I'm using ubuntu 10, and I also find there's a lack of tools for this OS, anyway I haven't found any limitations I can't overcome so far, there's a Linux tool for almost any task you can think of that is equivalent to it's Windows counterpart, or you can rely on on-line tools.

In my case. it works like charm (it needs Adobe Air).

Anyway, in their site they say they don't support linux, as there are too many distributions and possible incompatibilities, so the best thing you can do is: try the software (there's a 14 day free trial) and purchase it if it works for you.

The Virtual Machine idea, or even Wine, is also a good one, I'm also considering it in case I desperately need any tool which only works in Windows.

Mike, I'd like to point out that Wine has only been certified to run a very limited set of Windows applications without running into any issues, and chances are your Windows IM application won't even run smoothly on it. Here's the list of applications that have actually been tested - WineHQ - Wine Application Database

This is really not a viable solution for using IM applications that you'll probably need to run consistently day in and day out.

That hasn't been my experience. When I was running Linux I was able to run more or less any IM software fairly well with Wine. Simply double click exe/msi to install with Wine, then run.

Adwords Editor, Domain Punch Pro, The Best Spinner all ran in Wine without issues.

Having said that, I wouldn't recommend Linux in general for it's lack of compatibility with hardware and software. Mac OS X is the way to go for Unix-power and compatibility. A Mac Mini can be bought for little money.

I have a somewhat opposite experience: any hardware I get seems to just work on Linux, even when Windows refuses to play with the same piece of kit, but software under Wine is a hit and miss affair. That said, and to contribute to the original purpose of the thread, I find Traffic Travis works flawlessly under Wine.

Most of the software used for IM are small and simple. So they should work fine if your run it on an emulator like wine!
