How would you monetize this list?

I've got about 1k people per day signing up to a list where I email them scheduled reminders of upcoming sporting events. I want to monetize this thing w/out pissing off the list. Any suggestions?

    This is a good question.
    1000 a day?! that's amazing.

I'd say there could be a couple good ways to monetize it.

You may want to send out a letter or two to your list and see some responses before going through with anything for sure but the first thing that comes to mind is offering them good deals on tickets.

If you can find a way to do that then I'm sure these people who are concerned about up coming events would love to know about deals when they first come out rather than searching for them at a later time.

Another way would be to offer them sports memorabilia. Like perhaps some older stuff that isn't at every corner store.

This may be a bit more difficult because I assume your subscribers are all interested in different sports, so maybe you could send them towards one or two overall sporting goods or memorabilia sites where they can search for what they want exactly.

You wouldn't want to send a hockey fan a baseball deal you know?

Again I suggest sending out a letter to get some responses as to what your list wants. It's always a good idea because it will build trust and make them feel like you actually care about their needs which in turn will make them much more likely to stay on your list and buy from you.

I like Ryan's ideas. After you come up with some ideas, I would survey the list and grab some valuable feedback.

    Well, survey them first

    Maybe sports-related CPA offers.

You could do a LOT if you segmented (tagged) your list so you're only sending relevant offers to people.

Sports lists are big money makers. If yours is growing by 1k a day, then you are losing money by just sitting on that list. Poker and sports picks / touting services do very.

I would disagree with the folks that are recommending that you survey the list first. It may sound like a courteous thing to do, but asking people what type of ads they would like to see never works out for the best.

I would definitely monetize the signup process eg. the confirmation page and the thank you page. When you email them you could always have the email monetized by offering products under the P.S. as:

P.S. Here are other FREE offers my subscribers enjoy!

      Download this XXXXXXXXXXXXXX ($97 Value)
      Link to Offer

Download this FREE XXXXXXXXXXX ($47 Value)
      Link to Offer

      Free Gift From XXXXXXXXX
      Link to Offer

      Just a thought.

Well obviously you don't ask them to take a survey about what they want you to sell them

Just survey them about their interests.

Or if you don't want to survey them then just segment them according to what links they click on in your emails.

Wow, 1K subscriptions per day? That's impressive!

First of all you have to bring value to your list, I mean you should view the whole process as you providing a service to them and not necessarily trying to get them to buy your products. Continue doing what you are already doing, email them about good deals on tickets, this kind of thing.

After you have established this kind of relationship with your list, you can email them once in a while with your affiliate links, always trying to promote something they would be interested in.

Just remember that there are real people behind those emails and not credit cards. Try to help them by offering products and services that could make their life easier or more enjoyable. If you succeed in doing that, chances are that they will demonstrate their appreciation by buying your products.

I still can't believe you get 1000 subscriptions per day! You are well on your way to making good money with this...

        All the best!

How about becoming an affiliate for one of those sports betting sites?

    Just google "sports betting"

Almost all of them have affiliate programs that offer around $100 per sign-up and profit-sharing deals, etc.

Its definitely worth taking a look.

    Cheers,

If you email them updates and such, wouldnt hurt to sell ad space in the emails, and on the website.

As Andrew said, taking advantage of some affiliate program in terms of sports betting may in fact pay off very well. Your subscribers are going to be hard to target in relation to specific merchandise and or game relevant tickets unless you have split this segment somehow.

Two things I'd try promote to these people:

    1) Web TV software

    2) Sports Betting Systems

Do it well, and you should be able to make a killing. Once you can master marketing these 2 products to your list, you can try CPA offers.

I'd ease into the "reccomendation side of things"

    and start telling not selling

mid level and work your way up to hi level

    Event ticket sales.

I don't know about your newsletter but, you need to get these people to trust you
and then when, you say "buy this" they will.

Don't abuse it though. Just be sincere in your reccomendations.

You are doing something right...Don't change a thing for your getting sign ups process.

And yes, segmenting your list, could definitely help you, "squeeze" more from your list.
Be specific. Wh like football, who likes base ball...
then findout what teams they like....
    My 2 cents worth
