Chosing a domain name for a Toshiba laptop review.

Hello,

I would like to promote toshiba laptops through Amazon affiliate service. I know some SEO stuff well so I should be able to get high ranks in google but I don't know how to choose my domain name. I know that I can't use Toshiba in my domain name but for example, if the product name would be tosibha mt210, can I get a domain getmt210.com and make it a website about this product?

I hope you understood what I mean, I just want to be sure that I'm not violating any rules and laws...

Is it true that you can't use Toshiba in the domain? i.e. toshibareseller dot com?

What if I was Japanese guy who's name was Mr. Toshiba? does that mean I can't resell Toshiba laptops from my MrToshiba dot com personal blog?

I'm no lawyer, but seems a bit harsh to me... aren't you helping toshiba by reselling their product? why wouldn't they want you to benefit from their brand equity?

As for getmt210 dot com - you'll probably need to ask a lawyer dude, as anyone who gives you legal advice on this is putting themselves at risk. i.e if they are wrong and you get sued you are legally allowed to then sue them and the perhaps even the forum for facilitating that advice.

I suggest that you go to nissan.com and read up to Nissan Motors Lawsuit Against Nissan Computers. The latter is owned by a Mr. Mr. Uzi Nissan

Obviously, things are very complicated in ths area. For example paypalsucks.com is still here and eBay and PayPal could not do anything about it.

You should be fine using the Domain name you choose. Expecially if you're not going to a latops dot com to the end of it.

highbrid - Companies are required by law to protect their trademarks and tradenames or they can lose the right to them.

David - While I could guess that you'd be safe using that domain, it would only be a guess. Without proper legal advice you'd still risk losing it, and any work you put into it, and perhaps more. Your options are to contact Toshiba and see if they'll give you permission to use that domain name, or to get proper legal counsel, or to take the risk.

The one thing you DON'T want to do is rely on forum strangers for legal advice. As helpful as we'd like to be, what we tell you is no legal defense if we tell you the wrong thing.

A teenager called Mike Rowe registered the domain mikerowesoft.com and promptly got a lawyer's letter from Microsoft

People do register product numbers, and some very targeted buyers do search for it, but depending on the product the "shelf life" might not be very long. As the newer models come out the searches really drop. Something more generic might be better then registering a domain for each product number, you could still get the keyword in the URL, but it depends on the niche. BTW an exact match product number domain would probably be better.

I wouldn't risk it. Just come up with one using generic but relative keywords like laptops, deals, etc.
