Hi fellow warriors. A friend of mine wants to earn some extra $$$ selling some paintings done by her. An e commerce site with good SEO sounds like a plan, but what else can I do to help sell the paintings online?

Any ideas are welcome.

Create an affiliate program and post it to affiliate networks
    such Clickbank, PayDotCom and others.

Next, tell her to start an art blog and go out to forums,
    social networks, facebook and stumbleupon.

The letter 2 also have a paid advertising option which can
target demographics and interests as well as age and gender.

I have never attempted selling art through affiliate programs, please keep me posted if this works. However, I have had a friend sell a great amount of pictures by creating a blog and advertising through social networks and forums.

        1. Write an SEO press release announcing the new art website.
        2. Optimize the press release using local keywords or any others that will attract art buyers. Think of genre-related phrases, occasions to commemorate with buying original art, etc.
        3. Include anchor links in the press release that point to the site.
        4. Submit the release to free distribution sites like PRLog.org, PressZoom.com or PRFocus.com, etc., or pay $20 for WebWire for wider distribution.
        5. Repeat every few weeks with press releases announcing the availability of different pieces of artwork.
Press releases submitted to PRLog or WebWire usually get posted and indexed by Google within a couple of hours. The anchor links in the press release will create relevant backlinks to help boost the site in the SERPs and also drive targeted traffic to your site based on your chosen keywords, so doing good keyword brainstorming about the potential market will be important.

Also, don't forget the small business market for original artwork. Lawyers, real estate brokers and other professionals often buy original pieces to set themselves apart from the crowd -- at least here in the US that's the case.

If your friend is open to offering a sales commission, real estate agents could make good sales partners, since they usually develop and mantain large networks of consumers and other business people.

Your friend could also sell the original paintings, and retain the rights to print them on the front of blank greeting cards, and sell the cards at a lower price point to build her brand.

Good luck to you both on your venture!

The best online art selling site that I know of is etsy.com

I have several friends that use this site to sell their work and they all make a few sales here and there. Hope it helps!

Are you looking to sell actual paintings through the web or digital art / digiatal versions of paintings?

For the first I would just use craigslist.

For the second I would start up a blog site and market digital prints (never tried that, so I'm not sure where you could set that up), and shirts/knick knacks through printfection or cafepress.
