Is this a good landing page?

Hi all, I wanted some opinions on my gaming niche site landing page. It is here : www.literallygaming.com. I didn't use Wordpress (I had a hard time understanding on how to incorporate it) and I liked programming my own HTML. I kind of like it, but I want to know opinions about it if it'll be something to get people to buy stuff. I know this can take some time, but still just want opinions

Thanks a bunch.

    Hey Frank,

It seems to me like you're trying to get people to click through to buy games and Wii products from Gamestop.

This is not too bad for a first attempt but I personally see several things that you can do in order to make this website really sell.

First off, what I would do is change it up. Its too busy and I really don't know what your main goal is. You've got a banner ad up top which is distracting to the eye and slightly unrelated to the main content, then you've got many links for all types of different games.

A good webpage does just one thing and does it well. Like on this forum posting, the one thing it does good and well is to provide a place for you to get feedback on your landing page.

The one thing I would be doing in this market is to start out building a list. Take the content you have on your website, expand on it, throw in some more pictures and put it into a free report called "Nintendo Wii Revealed" or something like that.

Do a softsell on the report saying that you'll explain the Nintendo Wii from A-Z, tell them what the hottest games are, and get them really excited about it. Make it seem like that if they're in the market for a Wii, they simply have got to read this report.

Once they get on your email list you can then send them more Wii related content and affiliate links.

Right now, if a visitor comes to your site and leaves, they've gone into the internet mist forever. But, if you offer them a cool freebie like that report I was talking about, you get their emails and they can be marketed to again and again until they leave your list.

Here's some examples of good squeeze pages:

Not saying this is the best be-all-end-all way to do it, just telling you how I would do it.

    Hope this helps,

    -Claude

    Honestly?...

I'm gonna be fairly brutal here...

Some might even say I'm going to be quite frank, Frank.

    It's really bad.

It's got poor design, no direction and I am really confused as to what you want me to do on that page.

You need to decide if this a landing page, or an entry page to your review site.

It appears that you aren't quite sure what you want this site to be, do you want it to be a landing page?

If so, you need to trim it down a little and leave your visitors with only two options:

    1) Perform your M.D.A

    or

    2) Leave

Don't throw banners and external links in their face. All this does is bleeds traffic. Give them very basic options and expect them to perform for you.

Your font is a bad choice. Choose something that is relatively easy to read, verdana or something like it.

That's just my initial thoughts after a few seconds on the site..

    Having said that!

You put some effort in and made a great start, there is a lot to be said for that.... don't let my comments get you down, hopefully use them as fuel to power your vehicle!!

    Peace

    Jay

p.s. M.D.A = Most Desired Action... what do you want your visitors to do?... read a review?....opt-in to a list?... click to a sales page?....

Well I wanted it to be my landing page, and have them go to the links and shop from there. What do you mean by "MDA"? Also what program do you suggest I learn to do affiliate marketing? I'm a member of THe Niche Blogger, but I just cancelled it but I could probably renew it for month two. It seems to be the cheapest program online to learn... also, would it be better for me to go with Wordpress?

I would advise you to stay with this program (TNB)

Amy Bass is teaching some really cool stuff with that. Smart, sharp lady.

She knows exactly what she's talking about and you can do really well to learn from her!

Follow the program and ask for help when you need it

MDA - read to the end of Jays post, and when you have read it, read it again. He makes a lot of sense.

If you got a little cash, invest in designer, I know someone who for a couple of hundred dollars could take that page and give you a kickass landing page.

If you hadnt worked out that person is me, PM me if your interested

Either way good luck in your online ventures.

Hi Frank. You have to start somewhere, so go back and tweak it.

Read it out loud as if you are talking to someone, and make it flow.

Sort out that punctuation and spelling. Give it more paragraphs. And a margin each side.

And then look at it again in a few more days.

    All the best

You could use some classy Graphics , esp an impact header
Text is too wide and too much the same
Use some color and some bold to make your points
    Nice start... Keep on tweaking

That looked alot like my landing pages when i was first starting out. One thing that will really help is if you make the page seem more exciting somehow whether its more color or something its just to many words and to plain

Frank, I have to agree with Jay. When I first landed on the page I was very confused as well. Looking at it from a gamers perspective (which I am not and let us make that clear) it does not have much appeal. One of my daughters is a video game fanatic and I have seen some of the sites she visits (the parent in me does that) and they are much more attractive.

I think you should listen to the recommendations Jay has given you. I think there is way too much content (which from SEO perspective is good) but you need to have a better site set up.

I don't like the black background, also I think your page is too wide. It makes it harder for your visitors to read your website when their eyes need to travel too far across your monitor.

Your images are very ugly as well, i think you could find some better pictures to represent the different games. The pics are small and hard to see.

Thanks everyone, I see most answeres were negative, which was ok, I wanted input. I don't want to put my site up on adwords and just spend money for people to click and no sales...

as for the images I just used the ones I received from Gamestop. I guess this site wouldn't really be a good landing page. What about as a review site? I wrote an Ezine article "How To Play Video Games" and I thought I was going to make a sale... it was my first article I got a rating on and like 4 clicks in just a couple of hours. But after that it stopped.

I think whoever said I was confused for a landing page is probably correct. I am at a loss as how to make an attractive blog... maybe I should look into Wordpress

Oh, as far as for the missspelling, I did that on purpose because I read it could be a good SEO trick. This is my first attempt at this stuff, so bare with me

Almost offtopic, but I think "How to Play Video Games" is far too broad for an article title. Get specific.

(Disclaimer: Not a gamer. But I am an EzineArticles author.)

Also, I've also noticed that articles at EZA get a handful of clicks as soon as they're published, then .... nothing. Bots, perhaps?

Well i am with Jay, that site is horrible - but dont let this put you off but take it as a chance to improve!

    1) black border <--- who died?
    2) images are TINY
    3) way too much text
    4) ?

Just too much to list. A user going on that site doesnt see a benefit at all. The typical gamer i am sure wouldnt like to go through all that text. And the site is WAY too wide.

I would take that content and put in on a WP sites - seriously, you would gain SO MUCH learning wordpress. A good WP theme/template would already make this look 1000x better. Then re-arrange the text and add bigger pictures. Make that site ATTRACTIVE for the people.

Wish you luck..it can only get better

    add:

your biggest problem is that you only have a single page and NO structure in your site, no sub-pages etc. Please learn wordpress.

    Look:

LiterallyGaming.com is your one stop shop for gaming goodness. Here you will find information on the latest gaming systems, games, and accessories. This site is new so it may not have everything right away, but in time it will grow. One of the many things this site will have stuff for sale is Nintendo products. This site is an affiliate for Gamestop.com, the links you click on here will go to them so you can feel safe shopping here. There have been many video games throughout the past few decades, and one of the most famous video games is Nintendo, which is sold by Gamestop
this is the first thing i see. Except this is totally irrelevant. This should go on an "about us" page and not be the first thing people see.

Pretty bad, but let me give you some real advice.

Find a site or page you like.

Then go to odesk.com and post a job for clone page with your own original text.

My guess is you could get some1 to do 1 landing page for $30.

Nah, I wouldn't do that. If I'm going to spend $30, I'd probably just get a template or something.

It's funny... I asked a friend of mine what he thought of the site and he thought it looked fine. I didn't think my page looked all that bad, either... but in time I'll probably change it...

Truly, what is good or bad really comes down to 2 things. 1. Is the SEO good enough to have it place for the keywords you are after.

        2. Is it converting the traffic to $$$$.

I have some pretty whack looking sites we made a few years ago that make me and my clients very good money. This whole game really comes down to making $$$. I have seen some of the best looking sites with terrible conversions and some goofy looking sites that had ver high conversions.

        Good luck to ya!

    Frank,
I'll be a bit nicer. It's a start and any start is good.
Think focus. Each page should have a single desired outcome, unless it's a branding site which it isn't.

If someone goes to page a page a is for opting them into a list or selling a single product. You present your selling points and tell them to take action (buy or optin)
Give them nothing else to do and no other choices on the page.

Now when you do get it done let me know. I have 3 multiplayer gaming sites with 10k + subscribers that I rarely pitch too because I have few options. I have been dying to x-promote and JV on it and have a slew volunteers that would assist with it. My wife and a friend are running it now and could provide you with a nice jumpstart on sales with a good email push.
