Money Outside Of The WF?

A while ago i posted a thread about having all your egg's in one basket and this one does kinda link back to that but on a new twist if you like.
We all know it's important to expand and if you do only have one business or niche or website that makes you your money then you need to expand on the traffic, income and marketing streams and not rely on just one.
So take that and apply it to the WF and the IM niche!
There are loads of guru's that don't have account's here and make a load of money and even little guy's but in my mind at the moment it must be alot more work to do that and to get to the top level of income that the big players are on with their own product's.
It's easy to get the startup cash for a nice design, domain and even outsource the whole site creation and affiliate program setup by releasing your product as a wso. Then getting some feedback and making it better before the proper release.
But how do the people who don't use the warriorforum do this? Or how would you do it?
