So I recently started article marketing and I launched my first adcopy for an adswap out to my list of 96 at the time.

It's been about a 5 days now and After viewing the stats now I manage to get a click through rate if 38% of all the people who opened it.

What is an average click through rate I should be aiming for?

Thanks

That's a quite good CTR, especially to a brand new list. I've found that often with new lists if I send out a promo message too early it doesn't perform well because the bond isn't there.

So I'd say getting nearly 40% from a cold list is pretty darned good! Keep up the good work.

I'd say that's pretty good for a new a list, but over time (and with some regular list scrubbing) that percentage will increase. Good job :-)

38% of the actual people who opened the email is ok, but you
should be aiming much higher then that.

Your goal is at least 50% of those who open the email to
click on the link and visit the website you want them to go to.

But ultimately you nearly everyone who open the email to click
    on the link.

Measure the clickthrough rate against your conversions. Ultimately, your goal is to make money. So if out of a list of 100, you have 38 click thrus but 0 sales, then you gotta start paying some attention to whatever it is you are selling or promoting

    It's a start.

And, I would have given you that answer had you said 20% or 70%. Why? Because there are things you can do to improve your bottom line.

Let's say have a list of 100 people, 50 people open your message and 20 of those click through, of those, 4 buy (20% of 20).

Improve each step by 10% and you won't have a 10% overall increase, but closer to 50%

A list of 110 people, 66 opening your message, 26 clicking through and 8 people buying.

Also, if you sell items that cost only 10% more, assuming the other 10% increases work, you will put that much more money in your pocket.

    If you would also switch to a $33 product from a $30 one (again only a 10% increase), that's $264 vs. $120.

All of this is to say that you're off to a good start. Not so much because you are getting 38%, but because you are measuring it - and that means it can be improved.

To answer your question of "What is an average click through rate I should be aiming for?", there's only one answer, in my opinion, and that's 100%.

    All the best,
    Michael
