Press Releases How To?

Hi,

I have never written a press release before which is probably a bad thing considering my website is a year old. I have started to write one just now but I'm not sure if I am doing this right and where I should submit to. Does anyone have any tips on how to write a good press release, and also some sites that I should submit to? Also, is it ok to submit the exact same press release to more than one site? Don't know if that would be beneficial or not due to duplicate content.

Thanks

Won't go into much detail as I have my own Press release service on the Warriors For Hire section

    http://www.warriorforum.com/warriors...optimized.html

However, concerning the duplicate content myth (of which there is always much debate about)

    Consider this;

A large corporation has a new product and issues a Press Release to all and sundry, the exact same content gets posted on THOUSANDS of sites, news sites, trade sites etc

Do you think that they suffer for duplicate content?

Absolutely not! In fact they benefit from it!

      Thanks Steve,

That's good to know that I can post the exact same press release to many sites

Steve's right about there being no duplicate content penalty, so don't worry about submitting to more than one site.

IMHO, the best free distribution site is PRLog.org. I submit PRs there on a regular basis. They get good distributiion to the news sites and webmaster RSS feeds, so you'll get plenty of backlinks to your site.

The PRs on PRLog usually get posted and indexed within a few hours, so can drive fast traffic.

You can submit to more than one free distribution site for additional backlinks, but there are only a few that are worth the effort.

Bignews.biz, PressZoom.com, Free-News-Release.com are a few of the others with high page rank that I use for extra backlinks. There's some distribution overlap with PRLog, but each of them posts the release (backlink) and have different RSS subscribers (additional backlinks).

For paid distribution, my fav's are WebWire ($20) and PRWeb ($80).

As for press release writing guides, see the WSO in my sig. It includes an ebook on how to write traditional press releases as well as a guide and template showing how to optimize them with keywords for the web.

If you prefer free guides, spend some time on PRWeb -- there's a lot of good information.

Once you do a few press releases for your site, I think you'll be hooked. I like them better than article marketing.

        Hi

I released my 1st press release a couple of weeks ago and have had a fair result. I outsourced the writing to needanarticle.com and then just uploaded to PRweb which is $80 traffic so far ok but the actual press realease is on page 2 pos 3 for chosen keyword so pretty good I suppose.
        Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated

Does anyone know where there are any good press release guides or templates for writing one? I found some templates through searching on Google but some are very basic and some have so much info on them. I noticed many of them say issued (date) as well as for immediate release (date). Do I really need to have the issue date AND the immediate release date on there? Is the release date to tell the sites when they should release it?

The templates are based on the format that was used before the internet existed. Press releases used to be mailed or wired to newspapers and journalists, and the release date was intended for their use.

When you submit a press release online, you'll be filling out a form on the distribution site, and won't have to worry about including that information in the text of your release. You'll indicate the release date in one of the data fields.

    Hi Audre,

I noticed that Prlog does not allow anchor text in the release. Do you recommend any pr sites that do?

Free-news-release.com and FreePressIndex.com both allow one coded anchor link.

Anchor links are powerful because the keywords indicate topic relevancy to the search engine spiders.

PRLog does not allow coded anchor links, but you can include a raw link to an internal page on the site you want to target.

If you plan ahead and use your keyword in the page name, it's similar to an anchor link because of relevancy.

How do I know if my PR is too salesy or promotional?

I have about 20 Amazon product reviews that need PR ASAP for backlinks and traffic coz let's be honest, it would be extra nice to reach my 5$ a day goal before this summer.

How can I spin Amazon product reviews into PR without going all salespitchy?

Help please, PR gods in the WF!!!

Its actually *relatively* easy. Simply look at other PRs at prlog.org or bignews.biz.

Basically, you need to write in a little different style, focus on an event or introduction of a product/service and do NOT make it look overly promotional/hypey.

Or you could offer some product cheaper and then write a PR about that special new pricing, things like that...or maybe you add some bonus to a product and then write a PR about that new package you offer on the site. Its mostly simply a matter of wording
