What ONE SKILL will earn me the MAXIMUM amount of money in the most EFFICIENT WAY

Hello,

I am sure you know that

- we each have a limited amount of time
- so it's in your advantage to devote yourself
to one thing at a time and master it
- by specializing and mastering a skill you
can make more money from it

So, if i had to devote myself to mastering
one IM related skill over the next few months,
years etc what should it be. For example there is...

- adsense
- PPC
- CPA
- Affiliate marketing
- site flipping
- product creation
- SEO
- ebay etc.
- blogging
- teaching, coaching

What skill will make me the most money
the most efficiently. Personally i am
leaning toward PPC and copywriting
(i enjoy writing and learning about copy).

If i mastered PPC i could use it to drive
traffic to my site, i could, "pay" for
traffic instead of working for it

If i mastered copywriting and could get
as close to the, "100% converting sales letter"
as possible.

I could then covert the traffic with
my writing skills (money's in the list right?)

I feel this is the most efficient and
profitable way to go about it

Learning how to sell with words is the most valuable skill i can learn

What are your thoughts on this?

Should i now be devoting the first
two hours of my day to learning copywriting?

Consider this David Deangelo / Eban Pagan
makes a good few million by selling information
products (writing) and selling them with great copy (writing again)

- Become a master copywriter (dan kennedy level
no matter how long it takes)
- Drive traffic with PPC (instead of struggling with
articles, videos, backlinks etc.)

Wait for the money to roll in

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for your time

You're right about specialization. Hence, you need persistence to make it works.

But what many people don't see is the "Henry Ford" way...mass production, outsourcing..
that's the most effective skill of all.

If you enjoy writing, why not create you own product, learn copywriting to create a great sales page, and then use affiliates to drive traffic to your offer? Your main job would be attracting affiliates, not customers.

Of the skills you mention in your OP, learning effective copywriting is likely to be the most profitable and would be transferable to the offline business world if you ever felt so inclined.

Of course, the first question you need to answer is what exactly do you want to do with your "limited" time. And "make money" isn't really enough of a response.

Pretty much impossible to answer because skill sets tend to depend on
    one another.

I would say a combination of PPC combined with good copy on your
copy/squeeze page and a converting relevant offer , you need about
three skills generally to make bank unless you don't wish to build a list
in the process, in which case you can pretty much PPC with direct
    linking.

Anybody who's extremely well versed in PPC and importantly tracking
can make solid bank time after time .

    Hi Courage,

For me, content creation and networking with influential players has attracted money quickly. I know, 2 skills but they are the necessary skills to make money.

If you desire money the quickest way to get money is to help people make money. Providing helpful content is the best way to help people to make money. After devouring your work and putting it into practice they can make money too. Give what you want.

You can't do it on your own though. I learned this the hard way. By networking with Industry Big Dogs you tap into whole new networks, putting your product in front of more eyeballs who happen to be in your target market. This increases your visibility by leveraging your time. An insightful comment on an influential blog can triple your traffic versus an article posted on a less traveled blog.

    To your success!

Since I coach copywriters, I may be biased... but I'd say copywriting is a great candidate
because not only can you write for clients and make money, you can also write persuasively
regarding any product you choose to create.

Combine this with knowing how to drive traffic and prospects to your site, and you can
then LEVERAGE your copywriting skills multiple times.

So I'd say copywriting, combined with attracting prospects are the two skills that, when
combined, will earn you the maximum amount of money in the most efficient way.

There's one flaw in your logic, though I agree that as far as efficiency, PPC
is hard to beat provided you really CAN master it. And naturally, good copy
is required to convert the prospect to a sale.

But what the hell are you going to sell them?

Unless you are also excellent at product creation, not only creating the
product but also deciding on a product to sell, you're sending people to a
sales page that is not going to convert no matter how well written it is.

So...if you're not good at product creation, your only alternative is to
outsource the task. And while maybe the actual writing can be done with
no problem, there still leaves the matter of choosing your niche and
      product.

A wrong choice, no matter how good the product actually is, won't sell.

So you need to understand buyer psychology and also what it is that
people are willing to spend money on. This is another skill in itself and
one that I find many people are weak at.

In fact, really understanding what people want (not how to persuade
them to buy, because that's what the copy does) is critical in any
industry. That is why so many billion dollar companies have laid eggs with
products because they misjudged the public's wants.

Screw that part up and a million dollar copywriter can't save you.

    @Courage:

I'm going to tell you to stick with your first mind on this one. You should definitely be focused on becoming great at copywriting.

Get good at it, then start immediately looking for clients to write copy for. This can get you into the money really quickly.

You can easily run a WSO on here and get 10-15 clients at $97-$297 or more a pop.

After you're confident in your skills start selling your own stuff. Use all the bank you made from your clients to start driving traffic with PPC.

I think if you can learn the skill of testing! Run a test - if not working get out and try something else. Too much time is spent on "the big plan" and not enough time on ACTION. Dan Kennedy - a great copywriter no doubt when he's selling $2,000 live events - always teaches to get things created - don't worry about perfect! Get it out there! Copy with spelling errors has converted!

The only thing I would say about copywriting is this.

    You can outsource it.

You can hire GREAT copywriters, truly superb, not something
you can learn in a couple of months but guys who have spent
their lives honing that skill . You could "learn for a year and
stil not hold a candle to a good copywriter, whereas' in a
couple of months with a budget you can conquer PPC.

It's much harder to outsource PPC, than it is copywriting, it's
a totally different beast , there are major issues such as:

    a) If somebody is good enough to generate a consistent ROI
with PPC campaigns - why bother working for you?

    b) Trust - they have all your winning campaigns.

    c) If you can master PPC, you can easily transfer from one niche
    to the next.

Pay somebody to build a website or squeeze page, pay somebody
    to write great copy.

But control your own PPC accounts.

    My two cents.

Somethings truly lend themselves to outsourcing, some less so.

If you have "x" amount of time to learn something, PPC is something
that can be learnt and once you have it down pat it's like a cash ATM.

    My 2 cents.

I doubt just mastering one skill is enough unless you have tons of money to spend on outsourcing. If you have that then you do not need one skill too. All you need is a business idea.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[2190256].message }}
  • The one skill you MUST learn is "sales".

    Advertising is salesmanship.

    - What good is a product, service, or idea if you can't sell it?
    - What good is generating traffic if you can't convert it?
    - What good is copywriting if no one takes action?

First and foremost, learn how to sell.

I don't thinnk you can master just one of those skill sets without also knowing at least several of the others. Might be better to start with three or four that work together. Then when you have the basics you can concentrate on what you like best and outsource the others. It is very hard to effectively outsource if you don't have a basic knowledge of what it is you need.

I made money with eBay for many years until I got sick of the time consuming labor, pettiness, cheats, and stinking fees. I would not recommend it for any newbie nowdays.

I do not think that anyone can give you an answer to this question without knowing a little bit about you. To go even further with it, I would say that you are the only one that has the real answer. You see, there are people that have mastered each of the examples that you gave. So it is not about which field is better than the other but more about which field is better for you. I am referring to your personality, your strengths, and your inclinations. In order to make a lot of money online you need to become an expert at a thing which is most times centered along your core values. You need to develop mastery around your core identity (I'm sounding more and more like Frank Kern with each passing day )

All the above fields are fair game but since you say you have a passion and an inclination for copywriting that's where I would focus my efforts.

    DANG!...What a smart question!

If I could only have ONE skill...just one skill to pay the bills...now
and 50 years in the future?

You know what I'm thinking it would be?

    Copywriting is darn tempting.
    Schmoozing is getting warmer.

    But...

While I can't speak for everyone.

    I'd want superior PEOPLE SKILLS.

If I can make people feel understood, validated, important
and encouraged...then I believe I could change the world.

I could hire and keep the best talent in areas where
I suck...like design, programming and such.

With superior people skills...wouldn't I have
deals coming out my ears?...(JV, Licensing, Radio interviews, Affiliates promoting for me...etc)

    Also...

I propose that with superior people skills...I might
be at least an effective copywriter? After all...understanding
people is the meat in the copywriting stew.

    Peace,
    Travis
