Ok guys, I have a serious problem with one of my sites and need opinions pls.

I registered a domain like early Friday. It was set up and the DNS settings
changed on Sunday. No problem right?

Okay, I tried to look at the site using the URL and IP addy last eve (Mon) and
still couldn't view it, so I asked here in the forum if other people from Ohio
can see it. A few said they had no problems seeing the blog.

So I figured it hadn't prorogated all the way yet. Late this afternnon, I tried
it again and still couldn't see it. The funny thing about it is that my neighbor
could tough, and we both have the same provider.

So, I cleaned out my cache, temp files, etc ... even my DNS cache, turned it
off, then turned it back on. Still nothing.

I went so far as to buy another router thinking mine was going bad. Nope ...
nada.

I contacted 1 and 1, and my provider, and both parties claimed it has nothing
to do with them. Okay fine.

So I waited till this eve to check it again. I finally could view the blog using
my WHM account, so I set the theme up that I wanted to use.

In the meantime, I did get a reply from 1 and 1 support again (a few hrs
later) stating they can see my site now, and asked me if I could see it yet. I
wrote back saying I can thru my WHM account, but that's it.

Guess what, I came back in to finish it up about an hour or so later, and now
I can't even view the blog thru the WHM cpanel. All I get is that 1 and 1 ad
page they put up.

Btw, I can't get into the cpanel either via URL or IP addy. I can get into the
domain though using an FTP client.

Honestly, this is the strangest thing I've ever seen.

I'm under the opinion that 1 and 1 either reset the DNS settings again, or
they didn't register the domain properly.

I could be wrong ... that's why I'm asking for other people's input.

Does anyone in here have any ideas as to what is going on with this domain,
or why I cannot view it on my PC using various browsers like IE7, FF, Safari,
etc ...?

It would be different if I was getting a regular error page like a 404 or
something like that, but I'm not.

If you have an opinion / suggestion, I'd appreciate it if you posted them here.

Thanks, and all the best ...

Mary

It happened to me today - still don't know why:

2 computers on the same network, on one PC I type:
    http://www.domainname.... or http://domainname.... - both work

on the other pc, it also works if I use the WWW, but if I don't type the WWW I can't see the site! (it takes me to the DomainName provider page, like if DNS change was still in progress...)...

    Really wierd.

So try with WWW and without WWW...

    ping yourdomain.com

    Hey Jeff,

I tried that this afternoon, and it was still resolving. Now I'm not getting a ping back.

It's the wierdest thing I've ever come across.

    Any other ideas?

    Hey kiev,

Nope, tried that one too. Then I went from Http:// - http://www dot

    Still the same.

Your site sounds like it is still prorogating. I'm afraind mine isn't at the moment.

    Thanks guys for the responses.

      Writing PM now Jeff, thanks!

I had this problem too and it drove me nuts. Finally I insisted on talking with the guy that does the intricate work on my Internet Provider Server. It turns out THEY have a cache. He emptied it and my site served right up.
The same thing can happen on every server. It saves them bandwidth but it sure makes a mess of things from our point of view.

      Hey talewins,

That was a good suggestion. Believe it or not, the tech guy at my ISP did check to see if it worked on a different computer that uses the same type of modem we use in our residence, and he claims it showed up just fine.

His reasoning was that that he would have the same problem getting to the domain as me with this computer.

He also mentioned that they update and empty the cache regularly.

My question in this case is, why in the heck isn't it happening with the rest of my sites lol?

Thanks for responding. It was a very useful post.

Did you try a different browser?

I had this happen once and it was a DNS issue for me. It would work once then not.

Post the domain so people can test/check it.
