Hi All

Firstly wow what a magnificent site and i shall be signing up as a paid member. I have just found the forum and been spending the morning reading I hope I can mirror some of the earnings of people on here.

Not sure if this is the right etiquette but I desperately need some help on how to get video on a website, i have camtasia and cn operate that but just wanted to put an introductory video at the top of my web page but have no idea how to do it, hours of searching has proved fruitless, i guess that is the stroy with most new to this business. If I am out of order for asking I apologise but if anyone can help it will be much appreciated

I guess the most simple way is to just upload it on youtube and get the embed code. Are you looking for a more personalized approach?

If you don't want the YouTube logo, you simply need to upload your video to another video download site that will let visitors to your site view your video.

An easy to use video download site comes from the same folks who make Camtasia. They also have a site called screencast (dot) com. There is even an unlimited-time free version limited to 2 gigs of storage and 2 gigs per month download.

You simply upload your video into a folder at screencast, screencast will give you the embed code just YouTube does, you place that code in your website's HTML code, and you have a video on your site.

Screencast automatically provides the viewer too.

There are other storage sites too like Viddler and Amazon S3 - with Amazon you need to get your own viewer.

Screencast is tooooo easy. And if more than 2 gigs is needed, its $10/mo for 500 gigs.

    Enjoy.

For a short intro video you should not run into any problems to begin with. I just PM'd a member having looked at their site as the video was of high resolution and was taking an age to load.

Once you start getting thousands of hits you might want to host the video on Amazon S3 and pay a very small fee for each downlaod. This should only become necessary if you run into bandwidth restrictions with your hosting provider.

I just set up a pre-made website and had to upload the video to the server. There was a peculiar problem specific to playing the video in IE8 and so I began to look at the html code on the site. I reckon I could extract the code (which calls for a shockwave viewer) and use it to play a different video on any future website I build.

Incidentally, the peculiar problem disappeared when I reloaded the website on the server.

I am sure other WF members will chip in with direct instructions on how to do it.
