My newbie story so far

I started writing articles for some PPV and Revenue sharing sites earlier this year. Since I already have a full time job that pays the bills, I wasn't too concerned with the fact that I was making pennies per article per day. I was just happy with the fact that I was writing and that I was getting paid, even if it was barely enough per month to buy a happy meal.

But eventually I started thinking. These places must be making at least 5x back what they are paying me, and probably more in some cases. So I started researching and through some dumb luck stumbled upon Digital Point which then led me here to Warrior Forum.

To say that reading the posts on these sites was a wake up call is an understatement. Luckily I have a pretty good BS detector so I was able to cut through most of the clutter and false promises. What I learned was that you can make money selling stuff on the internet but you have to WORK at it. The harder you work, the more mistakes you learn from, the better you will get and the more money you will make.

That is the kind of path I was looking for. Being a salaried employee is nice, I get the same paycheck if I only work 30 hours next week, but unfortunately I get the same paycheck if I work 60. I want a job where if I slack off I get punished and if I get work crazy then I am rewarded, so IM seemed like a good fit.

So like a lot of newbies I started reading, and reading, and reading. Reading but never doing anything. Then someone on here posted that you will never get rich without taking action so I closed out that browser tab and started working on my first web site.

So that's been my past 2 weeks. Writing content for my website, writing articles for EZA that point back to my website, using my writer status on other sites to get backlinks, writing product reviews, etc.

It's been fun, it's been interesting, I made my first sale (.80 cents in my pocket from amazon commission). Right now I feel pretty good. My goal is to get my first site paying for itself, then to get it profitable, then to start working on my next site, and the next one, and the next one after that.

I have learned a lot from just reading this forum, learned about SEO, traffic, etc. However the most valuable posts are certainly the ones that say "you've read enough, now start doing."

Slowly everything is making sense and I am understanding more and more of what works and what doesn't. It's been great fun so far and I think that I can make it pretty well in this business if I keep at it. My goals are not to get super rich. My first monetary goal is simply to make enough off IM to make a single car payment ($285). I figure if I can make it there then the sky is the limit after that.

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and share a bit.

Good to hear that GameVoid. Seems like we both are on the same boat, but something I would like to mention over here is that People who take action are the only ones who reach the skies.

After couple of months, You would be at a place where you would try to mentor the newbies alot better then you had required in your new days.

Hmm.. Here's a tip: The starting is especially tough. No jokes. You got to do thorough niche & keyword research, create content, index your site, increase your SERPs on Google, generate more traffic, fine-tune your monetization methods, etc. etc.

But after that, it's mostly smooth-sailing all the way, save apart from a few bumps here and there

    Good luck and persevere!

Whatever you decide to do just make sure you ADD A MENTOR that you can always reach, who can possibly take you by the hand and show you the how and if need be, the why.
Then the back and forth usually characteristic of newbies without mentors will be sidetracked. Do hope we will all make it to the top of the ladder with minimal hiccups.

Yeah the shift in mindset is huge. Think of the leverage you get when you start your own venture. You can expand your efforts to get bigger rewards. Good luck and keep on making progress. It's persistence that wins not the genius!
