I cant count how many nights i couldn't sleep because ive had this great idea and i dont want to go asleep in case i forget about it.

This is because your brain wont let you sleep until you reach a point where it is imposable to forget it.

This is great of some people who dont have to come up with great ideas all the time but in the IM game and yes that's all it is, a game you have to be thinking about the next big step all the time . This is not a option well not when your trying to sleep its not.

You need your sleep, you need to be on your toes all the time. awake and ready for action when you get up!! remember this is a full time job and your boss is you.

The best advice i can give is to keep a note book beside your bed. When your in bed thinking of the best way to bookmark sites or stbmitting articles for maximum effect, wright it down. This is a topic for another day....tomorrow, so right it Down, let your brain relax and you will be better equiped for tomorrow.

Aswell as this, as your brain sleeps it plays out the thoughts you had jouring the day and complyes the best answer/path for you to follow.

I really mean it, this has helped me through so much.

(Sorry if my writhen english is not the best, i'm a bit dyslexic but it never stoped me and never will.)

That's true. Like any work, you have to sleep and relax because if you strees so much you dont work in 100%. Thats why we need to relax to work hard during the day. Nice advice..

I totally agree with keeping that notebook handy and within reach. Writing it down for some reason really does relax your mind when its racing with the new idea

Write it down and then you can get to sleep knowing your idea is safe til the morrow. Then, you can worry about whether you locked the doors, turned off the lights and fed the cat. There is so much around here to worry about that some nights, we sleep in shifts. One will stay up and worry for a few hours, then awaken the other to take over the job.

There is an art to it, of course. No need worrying about stuff you can not do anything about. Only things that are under your control. The real problem is sorting those things out. Knowing what you can do something about. That is where most of us fail.

As a matter of fact, it is bed time now. I need to get some sleep. Time to turn off the cat, lock the doors, and quit worrying. I got the second shift tonight.

I guess I'm not the only one One other quick idea on how to get your thoughts out is to keep your cell phone next to your bed. When you get an incredible idea I like to send it to myself (or several of these ideas if necessary) in the form of a text message to my email account. That way I won't loose the paper notes I wrote, or forget to read them - they will be in my face when I log in to my email account, and additionally I will at that time be online which is what you generally need to act on any of the ideas that come to your mind.
Just an idea - but works well for me...

The paper is a great idea especially when you are creating your first product. So many great ideas come to me when i am in bed for some reason but if I don't write them down they are gone forever in the morning

    Great idea

I myself am a bad sleeper due to this problem of switching off. For some reason I would find myself writing proposals in my head instead of sleeping, it got serious as I was getting less sleep. I even ended up taking Xanax to go to sleep then one day I decided to turn off the TV, go to a quite place and do my thinking before bed. Guess what, it made me tired as I allowed my brain to punch out all the good stuff instead of tv or whatever one does in the late evening. Give it a try.

    • That's true, it happens to some if not all because of excitement we hardly sleep. Yet, we need the strength to keep us going and put the idea into action, just a matter of putting things in its place.
