I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a step by step on this, thanks!

Is google analytics the best choice or do you guys know of any other great free tracking solution. I know Woopra, but I think it's not free anymore.

Just copy and paste the HTML code you get from Google Analytics.
if you are using Blogger I really recommend you switch to wordpress, so much more easier.

Google Analytics is the best among all such services in the world. So , go for that. You log in to the Google analytics site and submit your URL to be connected with 'analytics'. Then get the html code. In the bloger log-in and then click on the 'lay out'. Here click on the 'Edit Html'. The html page will open. Place the code you got between <head></head>.

I believe in your settings area you will be able to edit the blog theme. At the bottom of the page put the analytics code into the code of the blog theme.

Wordpress wouldn't be a bad idea, lots more plugins for SEO and such, but you shouldn't use it on a worldpress.com subdomain. If you're going to use WP get your own domain name and host it.

    log onto blogger,
    click the layout tab,
    click the edit html tab,
scrolldown to the bottom of the html code,
paste the code directly before the </body> tag.

    that's it

Definately after body tag. The following is taken form the google website.

Where to Place the Tracking Code

The tracking code is designed to read data from your page after the content for the page has finished loading. For this reason, the snippet should be located just before the closing </body> tag for your web page. Once the content for your page has loaded, the tracking code, when executed, reads the content for your page following the Document Object Model (DOM). All information relevant to tracking is then used to establish page information, set/update cookies, and to send the GIF request to the Google Analytics servers.
