How can I know about my competitors?

Hi All,

First time to post here. I am just starting from here but I am not sure which niche should I get into. There are strong competitors for the great niches. So my question is how can I know whether my competitors are beatable or not? Is there any tools for that? Thanks in advance!

Research, research and research. There are tools that can help such as Market Samurai, which has a time limited free download. Very basicly you put in key words, it finds related terms, analyses them, finds the leading websites in the niche, analyses them and tells you how difficult they would be to top. It does other things too.

(I have no interest in Market Samurai other than as a user.)

you'll probably never be able to conclusively say if you can beat your competition, for all you know they will be working on their next killer strategy..

so, identify your strengths and just get started with your project..

Clive has it right its all about doing alot of research. Even when you think you have done enough research there is still more research that needs to be done. I personally have and use about 10-11 different tools to help me with my researching process. One of those tools is traffic travis it is just about an all in one tool and I highly recommend you pick it up it will help you out alot in the end.

I normally look at the top ten ranking sites for my niche that I am interested to rank for. The following is a few things that I analyze:

      1) Number of backlinks to their sites
      2) Their titles
      3) PageRank
      4) Home page or sub-page ranking

You will know when you find a good niche when all top 10 are PR 0s or 1s and all the results are sub-pages, not the home page or the main domain.

Type a word in google search. If all the results that appear in the first 10 are page rank 3 & above, This keyword is too competitive.

You can try the 40 day free trial of Market samurai.

To get Keyword/ Niche ideas i always look in yahoo answers for the kind of questions people are asking. Popular articles on ehow will also give an idea of hot niches.

Google adword's keyword tool is still the best free way to research for low competition niches.

There aren't any guarantees, and you can't really know ahead of time. You just have to go out and test, and optimize to outdo them.

I use Micro Niche Finder. It gives you strength of competition (SOC) for keywords as well as a lot of other stats.
