Audio ... Autoplay vs Not (my testing)

Hi all,

Right now I'm running some tests to optimize my double opt-in rate. I'm using Google Website Optimizer (GWO) to do a split test on the "thank you" page.

The first test was a success. I had a page with too many words on it, and the option to play audio was there but it was NOT an autoplay message. I tested it against a super-plain page that just said something like:

"Thanks for requesting my free lesson. Simply go to your inbox and click on the confirmation link in the email that I'm sending you right now. When you click the link, you'll be taken directly to the lesson".

That wasn't the exact wording, but it was close.

Anyway, the simple page converted 10% better.

So I am doing a followup test now. I simply took the "simple" page and recorded a "simple" audio to go along with it. Highly conversational in tone, and a simple message telling them to go click the link in their inbox.

The message is set to Auto Play.

So far the results are a complete disaster! It's very early and the stats are not meaningful yet, but I have a deep suspicion that my own customers do NOT want auto play.

We debate this on this forum a lot, and I simply want to encourage everyone to test this.

Using GWO is free, pretty easy, and it works REALLY well. It's giving me test results that I would have to grab manually otherwise (major hassle).

Find out if your audience likes auto play or not. Run a test.

(Side note - I am assuming the autoplay is the problem. It could simply be that my audio is not the right style ... but I know from experience that it's probably not my recording. I can easily do another test where autoplay is on vs off to confirm this).
