Autoresponder/Email Marketing Manager for Adult Industry

I am working on starting an adult industry newsletter, but just realized that the big-name list hosts (AWeber, GetResponder, iContact, etc.) don't allow anything adult-related.

I know most people just say to self-host, but the hassle of constantly having to keep my domain off blacklists and the risk of getting my list hacked is a big reason for me to not want to go this route if I don't have to. If I was just looking to blast out spam mail, or if I only planned on running a small list, it wouldn't bother me...but the goal is a legitimate newsletter with a very large number of subscribers.

However, I've done a lot of research and I'm starting to think self-hosted may be my only option...but it's worth a shot asking if anyone knows of any list hosts that allow adult-related information (not porn) to be sent.

Thanks,
Jason

I have made a very good experience when it comes to price and deliverability with an autoresponder hosted professionally by a member of the warriorforum. I am not sure about adult content and o not want to promote here. If you are interested send me a pm or answer to this thread and I will check it out for you.

    Hi,

Have you tried looking at other sites within your niche - competitors etc and seeing if any of them have an email service. If so sign up and see if you can look at links and see who the email service provider is...

    Cheers

If you do not find a good solution but self-hosting, you may think about Infinite Responder.

Thank you everyone for the replies.

Max, your suggestion was so obvious...I have no clue why that never crossed my mind! Most of the sites appear to be self-hosted...but I did I notice a few of the lists I'm on using managed providers where adult sites are against the TOS, like 1ShoppingCart and AWeber.

I emailed MoonRay Marketing about using their Office Autopilot...if they don't approve of my material I'll just end up self-hosting using AutoResponse Plus or Interspire.

      Thanks again,
      Jason

    Hello All,

Hey, uglykidd, curious as to what kind of reply you got from Moonray about the adult content with the autoresponder?

Actually, I've been looking all over the place (that's how I found this post) trying to find an autoresponder that will approve of adult marketers to no avail.

I really don't want to self host because I really don't know how to. I'm sure I could learn how but who's gonna teach me? Where am I going to get the time?

Anyways, if anybody has a good solution for an autoresponder service out there that allows adult content I would really appreciate to hear about it.

    Thanks,

        Hi
I was interested in this post and followed it through. The only company I found was an HTML site called Responsive Email dot com from Amsterdam

The spelling of resonsivemail.com in the original post looked a bit 'iffy' but I checked it anyway.

Any thoughts from WF members about this?

You can use Aweber and I have been using it for years with my Adult marketing. They just don't want any Pornographic photos in the emails, but do not care if the links in the emails point to porn as long as the links don't show porn. I have a saved chat session with one of their customer service reps:

"John K.: As long as the links
          don't show nudity. They can
          direct to nudity but they
          can't be present in our
          messages."

          - This is a rep from Aweber explaining how you can use it for a pornographic mailing list.

Don't believe me? Start a chat with them and ask them - it is allowed as long as there is no photos of pornographic material in the email itself, but if there is links in the email that point to pornographic material, then there is no problem.

That is too bad. I saw some websites using Aweber to promote sexually related material, but it seems that only time matters before they are suspended.

If someone finds a solution, I'd be interested too...

      I've been researching Sendblaster.

I can't find a Terms of Service that prohibits adult content. And the only reference to pornographic materials is in their anti-spam policy.

So from what I've read so far, they prohibit spam, but not adult content, as long as you comply with the FCC's CAN-SPAM Rules.

I'm thinking of trying it. If I do, I'll report back here whether my emails were restricted. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Sorry, I forgot all about this thread. I've learned a lot since originally posting this and have since been working with one of the biggest players in the adult industry. In the adult world, most marketers are typically either stuck mailing one of two ways:

    A) Attempting to go "fly by night" using mail hosts like Aweber, etc., knowing that your list could be shut down any minute.
    or
    B) Self-hosting. I mainly use Interpire Email Marketer running on a VPS. Interspire is a great all-around program...it has all the "shiny bells & whistles" you'd expect an expensive list host to give you (autoresponder, list manager, stats, inbox/open/click rates, etc.) and is pretty easy to install on a server. Self-hosting your own mailing list does require some homework, a little extra effort and typically more up-front costs, but it more than pays off in the end knowing you have complete control over your list. Additionally, as your list grows, your mailing expenses won't start to skyrocket like they would using something like Aweber.

IMO, the biggest downfall to self-hosting is getting high inbox rates. But, if you do your homework you can still do really well. If you're in the adult industry, you're stuck with limited options...unless you have a very large budget. Additionally, self-hosting issues like getting potentially getting blacklisted are problems that can quickly, cheaply and easily be fixed if you're set up right and know what you're doing.

I bet a video tutorial of what needs doing, when , where & How - to self host ....

      Would be a popular product!
Especially with so many not liking the thought of increased fees from the main players!

Have you considered doing anything along those lines ??

I self-host using Interspire and have had a lot of success in mailing for next to nothing. But for anyone looking for an adult-friendly hosted email service, the best I've found is YNOTmail.com. YNOT is a well-known network in the adult industry and their email service is pretty solid and has been around for awhile. Unless someone has a very small list, pricing is on-par with aWeber and MailChimp. If mass-mailing, pricing is much cheaper.

    Thanks a ton!
Hey I got a question for you (and anyone else who uses Interspire Email Marketing)
the $450 for a regular email marketing package is a lifetime flat-rate fee right?

I know this question may be better served to an Interspire rep, but just wanted to see if you guys knew

The $450 includes one year of free support and upgrades. Once you buy it, it's yours for life...you just won't get the free upgrades or support after a year.

It depends on "how adult" your subject matter is. If you are going full on, then yeah, you better just self host. If it is more informal, educational, you might be able to sneak by with mailchimp, but you always risk the chance that you say say or do the wrong thing and lose your list.

I've always self hosted my adult lists and never had any issues. I like the Tribulant Newsletter plugin for Wordpress. A very handy and inexpensive solution.

I've just been looking into this myself, if anyone is still interested I emailed Simplycast and this is their reply.

"We don't allow any sort of nudity, escort services, or any hateful material.

We have many Adult clients which sell or promote books, toys, or otherwise. These customers are able to take advantage of the service by ensuring all content is free of any 'illegal' content like pharmaceuticals, nudity, or otherwise."
