I get aggrevated when i get people emailing me with messages such as

cancel my subscription now or i will (insert threat here)

if you have a paypal account you have full control over any subscriptions
please dont bother me with threats because your to dumb to know how paypal works grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

How do I cancel a paypal subscription

First log in to your paypal account

At the top of the page is a link that says "profile"

when you click on the "profile link you will see 3 columns of links to paypal services in the middle list headed Financial Information you will see a link called "Pay List" or "My pre approved payments".

By clicking on the PayList link you will be given a complete list of all your subscriptions, to cancel any of them just click on the name of each subscription and at the top of the detail page you will see a link to cancel that subscription. See example below.

Status: Active | Cancel

    Robert,

I agree - PayPal could do a lot more to explain their unsubscribe process.

    However...

Doesn't this give you the opportunity to politely explain how to unsubscribe in your return email?

Maybe even drop in a subtle downsell/special offer?

At the very least you could ask why they felt the need to unsubscribe and you'd be keeping the channels of communication open for further business down the line.

After all, they thought enough of you to sign up in the first place

That's assuming he likes continuing a relationship with someone who has threatened him.

Sometimes it's better to let people like that go than try to convince them to stay.

        I agree... completely.

I've had these crazies too... they need to go, right away.

There's absolutely no reason to even contemplate any further relationship with anybody who sends threats via e-mail.

Anybody can be a keyboard gangster for a moment... it's totally unnecessary.

Paypal should make this kind of thing more obvious.

        Jay

p.s. I'm a little disturbed at the fact that I am agreeing with Robert and Andy in the same thread.. I need a drink!... start the footie warm up early c'mon England!!!

Yes, I agree. If someone is being abusive, there's no reason to continue the conversation.

But often, it's just frustration -and suspicion. People are conditioned to be wary of the "subscription" model because they hear so many stories of marketers making it impossible to unsubscribe. It's easy to understand how some may feel "here's another example of devious marketing" when they don't see an obvious way to unsubscribe. And PayPal don't make it obvious.

Of course, I don't know exactly what was said in Robert's emails. Clearly, there are times when a customer needs to be jettisoned.

I agree with Robert. I have no problem with people emailing me and asking
me to cancel their membership. I'll actually go through the trouble of
explaining how to do it so that they know how for future memberships.

But when people email me and get abusive or threaten me, guess what?

I delete the email and let them figure out how to cancel on their own.

They don't deserve any of my time to explain OR to cancel.

          ** EDIT **

In fact, I would send their threatening email to the FBI and really
          fix their wagon.

I absolutely agree with you and from the buying side I prefer to do only Pay Pal subscription transactions because of the ability to cancel with ease.

that said... If these folks new how simple some things really were we would not have markets to sell to... hmmmm

Yup, that happens all the time. I just have a generic reply for all of them and include that in a reply e-mail. It tells them how to cancel the Paypal subscriptions manually.

And I agree with Jay. While customers who are polite get my attention, people who are threatening in any way don't. I just send that generic e-mail to them.
