Consequences for changing blog's directory and URL

I have set a blog as a home page of my domain. Like address.com.

Are there any potential consequences if I would later change it to subdomain, like blog.address.com or address.com/blog?

I'm mostly concerned about my blog settings, statistics, etc.

it might have a short term effect but in the long term you should be fine.

both Stuart and yzal are right. Yes, there would be an immediate repercussion until Google figured out where everything moved to. However, you can avoid this by doing a 301 redirect and informing Google within webmaster tools (you will need to set up and verify both (sub)domains before you move anything though!

In your particular situation, though, it would be difficult to do a domain-wide 301 redirect, since it sounds like you have fairly immediate new plans for your current domain.

In that case, I would advise you (especially if your blog is still new and doesn't have a whole lot of content) to map out exactly what needs to be redirected, that way you can leave your redirects in there even as you begin building a new site on the domain.

    Hope that helps!
