Ezine Articles - DEMOTED!?

by tolson

I have had my ezine authors account for quite awhile.. I became a expert author after submitting some 20-30 articles in.

Then one day after I had a bunch of articles rejected for "promoting in article body".. I thought nothing of it and sent them in again thinking they would be no more promotion.

Well apparently you can't write a review at all, cause no matter what i tried to do i could not write a review on any product without it being rejected...but then why is there so many articles written out there on ezine which are reviews?? I dont get it?

Anyways the next thing i knew after that I was no longer a expert author and was demoted to basic plus membership

I don't even know why this happened, i thought their goal of rejecting articles is to help you?

Has anyone had this happen to them?? Or something similar?

I didn't even know you COULD get demoted in EZA! I'd feel really bad if my platinum accounts went back down to basic-plus. Thanks for the heads up!

Ya no kidding!! It just came out of the blue and BAM i was demoted. I was so upset and was already having a tough day.

I went off what another guy was saying and pretty much had my article the same format as his review...and i based mine around that, (i did not copy)

i dont get how they can have their reviews approved and yet i cant. Maybe theres a higher chance of getting approved if you have a bigger article??

Anyways how can you even review anything when you cant "say the NAME of your product or COMPANY in the ARTICLE BODY" ???? So Ezine just decided to let them go or what? Its a fricken joke!

Of course you can write reviews... Go to Ezine and search for the keywords "My Review" or "Personal Review" and then type in the product name and you will see a bunch of review articles come up.

Sounds like your articles were sounding more like a promotion, as you stated above - or a sales page or sales pitch. Can't do that - obviously, now that you have been demoted.

After submitting the same article over and over and not making the proper changes, they have every right to do whatever they want. It sux, I know, but they have that power.

I would have suggested you write them an email after your article was rejected for the 2nd time, to have avoided this. I still suggest that you do it and copy the article title of the article you are having problems with, let them review it and give you a response as to what exactly you have to change.

If you can't make the proper changes, move on and write a different article.

Yeah i think they got a little mad when i tried to resubmit an article so many times, I should have emailed them about it, but i guess it is too late now :\

I wonder if there is anything i can say to them to make them reinstate my expert author status.

I didn't just re-submit the article without making changes first.. i made many changes and added more content. I had like 380 words up from 250. Then re-submitted it. It was then still denied.

        Tolson,
The same problem happened to me last week. When I looked at the article which had been rejected, I did not really think that it was promotional. But, I worked on the article. I removed everything that implied I had any interest in that company. I just described what the company does and the target market for their product. I still mentioned the company's name. It was accepted. Good luck

It turns out they weren't into that.

But I emailed a message to EZA asking how I could get back to Expert status. I think they told me to submit another 20 articles and they would review those to make a decision.

I submitted those, making sure each article was at least 400 words, and I got back the Expert status, which I have retained since that point.
Sadly I think that is what I am going to have to do. It just sucks that I have to wait an extra few days for my articles to be reviewed, and to have them longer to top it off..

Yea i think they will. Cause once i saw my account it hit me really really hard. Making longer articles will help me out, cause honestly I don't think i should expect much out of puny 250 word articles.

It's not the length of the article I don't think. I submitted 10 articles that my outsourcer wrote for me and got platinum right away and the longest article was like 263 words. The articles were decent quality articles though...

tolson, there are a couple of points to consider here.

First, many people don't know how to write a real review. They get in the mode of writing faux reviews meant only to funnel readers to a specific sales page. I'm guessing that your 250 worders were doing that, whether you intended to or not.

Second, you learned that EZA wants their "Expert Authors" to write like, well, expert authors. In a way, they are protecting their own brand.

Thanks for posting your experience. It may serve as a warning to another well-meaning marketer and save them from the same mistake. And that's good karma...

EZA wants quality. Give them what they want and you'll be back to expert in a few submissions.

      Hi Tolson

With all due respect I really think you've got it wrong. As far as I know, even if you've just submitted 1 article you're an "expert author" from there you go to basic plus and then platinum status. Then you can be a "paid" member and have a Premium account.

Expert Author - Basic Plus - Platinum (Paid Member = Premium Account)

I think your answer lies in the following thread:

      http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...icle-body.html

You're allowed one self-serving link in your article, but only after 3 paragraphs. You can read more in the above thread. The link will be no-follow. This practice is not recommended by "top article marketers".

I have a couple of reviews up at EZA but only with 2 links in the resource box. They also don't like it when your review is "too promotional" towards the product you're reviewing.

I have never heard of getting demoted, I HAVE had product review articles rejected, and there are some things like cheat codes that they won't allow articles for, and obviously you can't put any kind of links in your article body, I would talk to customer support about this.

Last week I got an article back because they said the link didn't work. So I went into edit and it worked so I re-submitted it. It was then accepted.

Here is an example of a review style article that EZA more than likely will accept:

"XYZ diet product claims that if you follow the diet consistently, you can lose 15 pounds in a month. After researching this program fully, my analysis is that yes, you can lose 15 pounds in 30 days, however, this is only going to work if you are firstly 100% consistent, and secondly if you make sure that you follow all of the other principles of a healthy lifestyle (drinking plenty of water, getting plenty of sleep, etc.). That being said, if you only have a couple of pounds to lose, and/or if you feel as if you will not be able to stay completely consistent with high intensity exercises and eating 4-6 small healthy meals daily (which the diet requires), then this diet may not be for you."

An example of what they don't like:

"XYZ diet product will help you lose 15 pounds in a month easily, quickly, and it's also very affordable! This diet works unbelievably well because all you have to do is eat to lose weight and do some easy and fast exercises! If you start today, you can be 15 pounds lighter by the end of the month!"

It will be even worse if you have an article such as the second example and then you direct link straight to the merchant.

Basically, they want real reviews and not articles that are written in a "pushy salesman" kind of way.

Good luck and don't let it get to you.

I had a similar problem with a review I wrote. It was a good quality review that I had made better (in my opinion) then other reviews on EZA for the same product.

It was placed into problem status for being promotional 3 times. I looked through it and took everything that could possibly be promotional out of it. They stiil rejected it on promotional grounds.

I wrote to EZA (by going into messages, creating a new message and mailingg Ezinearticles support) and just them just what on earth was wrong. I backed it up with other already published articles that had more "promotional" pieces in than my article. This was their reply:

      "Hi Francis,
Your article has been placed in problem status because the article is about XXXXXXXXXX, and this is the product you offer for sale on your linked site.
Promoting a product that you sell causes your article to be promotional.
You may either remove the name of this report from your article, or link to a site that does not sell this report.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
      Thank you,
      Jenna
      http://EzineArticles.com/"

So you can write reviews of products, but if you do, you are not able to link to the sales page directly (ie put a redirect on a domain name). I had bought a domain and then redirected to my affiliate ID. (I wasn't interested in building a list for this particular niche, and the sales page had a pretty good conversion rate anyway)

I simply built a quick landing page for that particular article, and re-submitted the article I originally put in. It was accepted!

This could be the same problem you're having

      Hope that helps

      Regards

      Francis

        = = =

EZA has a ton of rules and it's easy to get aggravated. But ... it's their game and there's no point in griping about the rules. They're the ones with the traffic and if we want a piece we have to play their way.

This is the first time I have heard of being demoted. This is something I need to keep my heads up. I have been put to an expert author status for writing under 10 articles so far. Don' know whether this is normal for everyone.

I agree with you. Though Ezine Articles is the favourite topic of most internet gurus and top marketers, they are very strict and selective.

They do not allow affiliate links be it your article body or resource box. So everytime when I promote products be it PLR (Private Label Rights) or Clickbank, I need to buy a new domain name.

My 1st article is about all my favourite video games which they accepted. But when I start promoting affiliate products, they rejected all my articles. I was so frustrated that I requested my membership to be cancelled angrily.

Subsequently I resigned for them using another email address. Now I have 13 articles all with my own domain names.
