Should I redirect an unused domain to a site with traffic?

I've got several unused domains sitting on my host gathering dust because I haven't had time to develop them. Each is relevant to a domain name that I'm using and ranking pretty well for.

If I re-direct these domain names to the site that has traffic...

1) Will they get any ranking of their own?
2) Will they damage or decrease the rankings of the existing site?

Thanks,
Steve

Have you tried to park them? It can bring you something, until you decide what to do with them.

I don't really understand the concept of "parking" them, could anyone explain?

Just create a free Blogspot blog for each, then go into the control panel where they allow you to park a domain through custom settings.

      Redirect your domains to ghs.google.com.

Take some articles from EZA, in accordance with their TOS, ten per blog and a total of ten sites I think. leaving the author resource intact of course.

Add the articles to each of the blogs according to topic.

      Now they will be "parked".

      Best!

Steve, I don't think what you proposed will either help or hurt you. The sites you redirect won't get any ranking, but they will not hurt the ranking of the sites you are redirecting them to either. I would not do this since it will not really get you anything.

Parking means to put your domains with a service that will serve ads on your domain, and give you a cut of the ad revenue. One service that does this is sedo.com. I did this for a while but did not earn enough to make it worthwhile. Unless you get type-in traffic (like if you had a domain like dogs.com that people would type into their browser), you will not make any money with parking. Have you ever gone to a domain and see nothing but ads on the whole page? That is a parked domain.

What I would do is put up a few articles on each domain, related to the topic of whatever you eventually will develop them for. Even one article will work. Then get the domains indexed in Google somehow, such as by pointing a link to them from one of your established domains. The purpose of this is to get Google to know about the domains, so that the sandbox clock can start ticking. Then by the time you are ready to develop the domains, they will have come out of the sandbox and you are ready to go.

Another reason not to use parking is that Google does not like parked domains. So when you do get around to developing them, it might be harder to get them to rank.

I typed your suggestion into my browser twice, and there doesn't seem to be any such animal. Have you left out part of the domain?

    Hi Steve,

Redirecting them is possible but it won't give you any SEO benefit or even more traffic unless you are getting direct type in traffic.

I will echo the advice given by some people here. Install Wordpress on each of them and build up a little bit of content. Then use the domains to point to your other sites. At least that way you'll be building a few backlinks.

If you plan on keeping the domains activate something on them asap because the most valuable part of a domain (apart from its name) is its age. Get them indexed! Even if they sit dormant for another year

    Hope this helps
